    IB for futures

I run CyberTrader (daytrade stock), IB (daytrade eminis), and Qcharts for charting. Qcharts always has data problems, but for the most part it works. I use 2 and 5 min charts in Qcharts...1 min is too choppy for me. I'm using the snyvale-r01 server right now.

    Let's start a tax discussion

mjt, To be honest I am terrible with tax stuff, and let my accountant handle everything. I'm not sure where you mark the Trader Status box. Maybe someone else here knows. I think Thestreet.com has some good info if you want to know more.

    Let's start a tax discussion

Ray, filing as a trader, and electing M2M are two different things. You need to apply for M2M early. For example, if you send in the election with your return this April, you can use M2M rules for 2001 returns. Electing later than April 15th you won't be able to use it until 2002. You...

    IB for futures

I just started trading nasdaq 100 e-minis through IB last week. I'm very impressed so far. No connection problems or errors to date. I get market order fills in about 1-2 seconds, and figure that s&p eminis would be faster if anything.

    Death Blow to DayTraders

Maybe someone willing could write up a form letter that the rest of us could just copy and paste into an email to the congressman. I think many more people here would be willing to send that in than to think up their own arguments. The form could be posted on other trading sites too for all to...

    Death Blow to DayTraders

Between SuperSoes, SuperMontage, and now this new rule you would think that the gov't/Nasdaq is waging war on daytraders. All we do is create liquidity! They will realize they've made a mistake in a couple years when volume is non-existent and spreads are back to early 90's levels.

    Looking for good trading chatroom

Try http://www.trendfund.com. I think they have a free 2 week trial. It's run by a guy named Waxie. He's quite a character and keeps trading interesting. They concentrate on swing trades which doesn't fit my style so I don't use them anymore, but would recommend it to anyone interested.

Help with Trade Entry Using TP

Since I have only a little understanding of how TP works I can't really merge the two systems together. I think zBoy has a good understanding of TP so he may be able to help you more. You touched on an important subject though when you said that trending markets are easier to play then these...

Help with Trade Entry Using TP

First of all since you are a beginner you should know that this market is pretty tough, especially if you can only trade 100-200 shares of the more volatile stocks. Last year trading 100 JNPR would be much more profitable then 100 shares now. That said, if you find that you are being stopped...

What size are you trading? Do you have access to naz/s&p futures?

    Scalping NYSE Stocks

To scalp low volatility NYSE stocks you would be going for 1/8-1/4 points at most. Therefore you would need to be scalping 2000-5000 shares to make any real money. Interactive Brokers will charge you $20 each side on a 2000 share order (.01c share) I disagree with the comment about scalping...

    NASDAQ vs. NYSE Trading

The Master Swing Trader by Allen S. Farley is supposed to be great. I haven't read it myself, but have heard many good things. It is supposed to be very in depth and technical though, so be prepared for a long read.

    CME Pricing Changes

Just got this email from Quote.com: Dear Quote.com Subscriber, We are sending this email to inform clients who use CME futures data of some impending changes to the exchange policies. As of March 1st, 2001 the Chicago Mercantile Exchange will be raising their exchange fee for...

    Axe murderers

If you can't figure the axe out, just avoid the stock. No reason to take the extra risk when there are other candidates.

    More questions from a newbie

Everyone has their own strategy, so we all trade a different set of stocks. For my style geared towards scalping I like stocks with the following: 8M+ Volume Highly correlated to futures/market Excellent ECN liquidity Large intraday ranges

Getting a fill in a fast market

I can't speak for illiquid issues, although I would guess that SNET or a far out ISLD post would be the best in that situation. As for liquid issues i think ISLD is by far the best route. SOES is nearly useless in a fast moving market. You might get a fill 1 out of 10 times.

    Time and Sales - QCharts

I could be wrong but I believe there are two ways that these large orders can be executed. One is the way in the post above. An example of the other way is when a seller is able to find a buyer, and the trade is crossed at either the price agreed upon, or the VWAP and the end of the day. In...
