Is watercooling a trading system a bad idea?

RE: mouse Not a big deal in my opinion. I have computers that typically drive 8 to 10 monitors. Granted don't use a real mouse. You don't want to "lift and lower" repeatedly. Waste of energy and cause CTS later on. Buy a trackball. Set the pointer device speed to the highest. You can...

    Case suggestions

I passed by a neighborhood mom-and-pop PC shop just a few days ago. Used computers for sale. $79! Looked at the detail tag... Intel DX4 processor. Wow... my eyes widened.

Is the Intel i3 slow for trading purposes?

I think 8GB RAM as Scat said is a good balance. I only have 6GB on my 2 desktops and I get by. But with today's prices, 8GB is not a big deal. The higher the better, but on the other hand it may also be unnecessary. If you have heavy computing involved other than just displaying quotes...

Is the Intel i3 slow for trading purposes?

I understand that even the bests of everything we do would probably be inadequate for doomsdays. There is always something that we missed. It is that something that does us in. We can try to be redundant, triple-redundant on everything... trying to save us. But we also have our checkbooks...

Is the Intel i3 slow for trading purposes?

I don't think that is the case in most circumstances. The GPU is the last thing I worry about. Powerful GPU for charting is just an absolute waste. All the powerful calculations, photo-realism, how many millions of polygons per second, light sources, shading, translucency, etc... for drawing...

LOL Went Fishing! Now Stock777 needs to ask Captain Kirk to go back in time via a time machine to kill some pigs and beam them back to the Enterprise to feed the crew. :D

Is the Intel i3 slow for trading purposes?

We used to have dual core or even single core. That's true. Heck we used to use XT or 486 to trade just the same too. But things changed over time, the market changed. We trade in decimals, market prints are faster, more market makers, level 2 changes many times in sub seconds. Do you...

Is the Intel i3 slow for trading purposes?

Multi-core is a form of parallel processing. There are things different cores can share and there are things they can't. How the software can make them work together towards a common goal can be tricky. Your trading software does have to support it in order to fully utilize the capability of...

    Card to support 4 monitors

RE: So tradestation is better if some one is using multiple monitors? I am only saying I use TradeStation on many monitors and it seems to work okay. I have no knowledge of other trading software. RE: How many monitors do you have? since you stated you have 8-10 monitors connected to...

    Card to support 4 monitors

I use TradeStation for all my charts. I have 3 main desktops running TS and charts. Each computer drives 8 to 10 monitors. Each monitor I use a different "desktop" (TradeStation's terminology of a container). Each "desktop" contains about 4 to 8 charts. 10 desktops = about 80 charts max...

Are AMD systems unreliable for trading?

I use a MSI Big Bang XPower motherboard. It has a similar configuration, with 6 x PCIe x16 slots. But one word of caution, from my own experience: Although they provide 6 PCIe X16 slots (to be used in various modes), I couldn't get the FIFTH graphics card working. 4 cards (EVGA 8400GS...

    Specs for standard trading computer

Your custom config is more expensive than what I have seen on Neweggs, which has on for a little over $500. RE: the AMD HD 7470 card. Was that your own pick? Or did you pick it based on the advice of some Dell rep when you asked them about the need for 3 monitors and that's what they...

Is watercooling a trading system a bad idea?

RE: silent the PC isn't there something like active noise cancelling technology you can use - like those used in high-end automobile. Install a microphone, software, maybe dedicated speakers, to supress the noise volume? Via USB or something?

    Specs for standard trading computer

Your requirements look quite simple. Just about any low-end box you can pick up from a local computer reseller would work. Even Cost Co. The only thing is: 3 monitors. Many of the ready-made box can support 2 monitors these days. Look at the specs or the back of the computer. Now with...

Heterogenius USB-to-VGA adapters on same system

My final resolution: Got a HDMI-to-VGA adapter. Run 2 monitors from the motherboard (the Intel HD graphics), one directly VGA, second one via HDMI-to-VGA. Then run the 2 external See2Extreme USB-to-DVI adapters. 4 monitors now on this new box. Saved myself one SIIG-to-VGA Pro adapter...

Heterogenius USB-to-VGA adapters on same system

Yeah, Scat. I built it. It was actually the shell of an old Compaq SR5710F retired 3 years ago when I built my i7-930 box. I couldn't resist the sales from Fry's on a MSI MoBo and i5 chip combo for $210 with rebate. Thought I would revived the box given it a new MoBo and CPU and DDR3 RAM...

Heterogenius USB-to-VGA adapters on same system

Thanks for the link, Dart. The DisplayLink Install Cleaner appeared to have worked. I am back to a regular Windows 7 (normal mode) and it appeared stable. No more blue screen. And the DisplayLink software entries in "Programs and Features" are gone. I am back to 3 monitors.
