IB execution on open - different for round lots?

Hey all, I'm wondering if people have different fill experiences with IB based on whether or not you're buying/selling round lots or not. I'm finding a lot of slippage buying on the open using odd lots, and I'm trying to figure out strategies for improving my slippage. If anyone has a...

    TradersStudio Thread

Murray - can you give us a breakdown of what, exactly, is in the new version, what will be different in the professional version, and finally, what will upgrade pricing look like? Thanks.

Bulleye is the best - but unfortunately the developer has announced he'll stop selling it. Sniff.

Prop firms still around in Boston

Hey all - wondering if any prop firms are still in existence in Boston. Any pointers greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Deciding on a Backtesting and Trading Platform

I've looked at RINA before - looks pretty cool, but at $1k a month/$10k a year, it's just ridiculously expensive and you could duplicate the tools with any number of cheaper tools from Portfolio123.com to any of the trading platforms mentioned here.

Decent charting software to use with IB

Daniel - I did check out - the issue I had with that release was that it crashed on just about everything I did (WinXP here) - I'm happy to keep trying however. Do you have a forum for the software on the site?

Decent charting software to use with IB

Bestfreecharts is basically the Telechart product - but a backfill is when you request multiple days from the Interactive Brokers API.

NinjaTrader - Stay Away From It!

Can anyone detail what is coming in version 7 of the software? Just wondering what the plan is....

Decent charting software to use with IB

Daniel - thanks for the feedback - as I said, I think the software has a lot of potential. There are two indicators I use a lot: 1. Chandelier Exit - switches from long to short when price exceeds a multipe of ATR, where the stop is hung off of the highest high. 2. Z-score - basically...

Decent charting software to use with IB

Just downloaded the latest build of Quant Edge and Quant Solution. Quant Edge is pretty unremarkable - plenty of better solutions out there. Quant Solution is their backtesting solution - seems, again pretty primitive, although it has a similar approach to say, Rightedge. TradeProject has a...

Decent charting software to use with IB

One additional question Daniel - I couldn't figure out how (or if it is possible) to get a backfill from IB on a given security - does the software support backfill?

Decent charting software to use with IB

daniel - can I have the software run in a test mode for testing automatic strategies? This is one aspect that I like in Ninjatrader but I've been impressed with what I've seen in TradeProject.

    Deciding between Amibroker and Traderstudio

Yes! Thank you Murray! Can you give me any pointers on doing a rotational strategy?

    Deciding between Amibroker and Traderstudio

Not to be difficult, but no, I don't understand why I should have to reload a trade plan after I make changes to a session. Tradingblox, Rightedge, Seer Trading, Openquant, etc don't require this and it slows me down by a huge factor. So while I agree that splitting the functionality of the...

    Deciding between Amibroker and Traderstudio

Agreed on the synthetic data series - I think it'd be a great addition. The issue for me is that I often create synthetic data series that I reference outside of a trading system - so I might be trading all stocks, but want my synthetic series created out of a small subset. My other issue...

    Deciding between Amibroker and Traderstudio

I've considered doing something similar but that method, without storing the result in another data array, is pretty darn slow. Every time you run a system, you'll run that across all stocks for every bar. I suppose that I could write out the result to a file but I'm not familiar with that...

    Deciding between Amibroker and Traderstudio

Hmmm....well, maybe I just don't know how to do it in Tradersstudio. So, let's say I want to calculate the % of stocks in an index that are above a 50 day simple moving average. I want to plot this, and I want to buy, when, say, the index is less than 20 and sell when it is higher than 60...

    Deciding between Amibroker and Traderstudio

Gyles - with great respect - your review of Amibroker has some incorrect statements: "8. Even, as an end-of-day trader, you need to own more than just AmiBroker to do your analysis. As an example, you shall need TradeStation and AmiBroker because of the charting just like that of Trading...

    Deciding between Amibroker and Traderstudio

Yes to both. Tradesstudio requires purchase of data - depending on the amount of data you want (in terms of years, number of equities) this can cost you between $400 - $700 with a recurring yearly cost of around $360 (@ approximately $30/month). They recommend CSI data. AB can use any...
