I have a linksys wrt54g wireless router. I have everything working fine, but when i turn on my laptop, it automatically connects. It does not ask for a password. I went through the web based setup, and I input a password, but i must be doing something wrong, as it is not working properly...

Do you still use a router if you are connecting through an ethernet cable? I guess you still want to run from a modem to a router to your pc to go through the modem's firewall? Is this correct thinking? Also do you run your cable through this below for spikes...
