    What's up with TRIN today....

TRIN ended the day at about 1 yesterday (Wednesday), and was below 1 for most of the afternoon. I do not see how this is possible: On the NYSE, there were 405 gainers yesterday and 2231 losers. The top 10 trading volume listed stocks were all down yesterday. I cannot believe that 5 times...

To SCALE or Not to SCALE a profit?

Trend Fader, I agree in principle with your belief that it is more important to smooth your equity curve than to shoot for big wins - especially as a new trader - because "big" losses have more of a damaging psychological impact than "big" wins do for most people. It seems to me a way to...

    What's up with TRIN today....

I usually follow trin pretty close and it's been a great indicator of market direction lately. today however, it was extremely choppy and didn't move up past 1.2 until after 3 est despite widespread downward pressure. Can anybody explain the anomaly to me in terms of underlying buying and...

    Trader Taxation / CPA Experiences

Profitseer, One other benefit I thought of related to MTM acct: Because you treat all positions as closed out at the end of the accounting year, most folks agree that you can report your P&L on an account basis instead of a trade by trade basis. Certainly, you would need to be able to back...

    Charting Software Q

I've been disappointed by the quality of charts printed out from the two main software packages I'm using: TC2000 and Cybertrader. As such, i was thinking about using Qcharts (for this and other reasons). I need to be able to print out daily and intraday charts. Does Qcharts do a good job...

    Trader Taxation / CPA Experiences

profitseer, mtm accounting also eliminates the need to account for wash sales for active traders - which can become an accounting nightmare. As to other posts in this thread: I've used greentrader.com as well. It was a choice of last resort as I did not find a better alternative. Yes...

    shorting question

You need to study up on the uptick rule..... On listed stocks, there has to be an uptick before your order executes. On Nasdaq stocks, there has to be an uptick, but your order can be the uptick. Thus, you would need to enter an order 0.01 above the inside bid. It can still be tough to...

    Trader Taxation / CPA Experiences

I worked on trader taxation issues for several months before recently deciding what type of business entity I wanted to trader under and what CPA I wanted to use. It was a frustrating process with several twists and turns. I have made several observations that are relevant: 1. Most local...

    VIX at important level

Yes, it was over or near over 50 through mid December. One thing to note on the VIX, if I understand it correctly, is that prior to 1993, the values were backcalculated back until Jan 86. VIX was not initiated until 93 by the CBOE.

    VIX at important level

AAAintheBeltway - By different timing calcs on the VIX, do you mean they use different option periods?

    VIX at important level

I've been watching VIX too, it seems when it closes above 50, there is always a bounce up for at least a few weeks.

    Level II

So, is the time price priority on L2 limited to 2 decimal places. In other words a 25.924 bid won't displace an earlier 25.920 bid?? Thanks, Swish
