    High Sharpe Ratio Traders/Funds

no, BA = # Winners / (Total # Winners + Total # Losers) For me, denominator is not total number of trades, because I do not include Breakeven trades (or almost be trades) in the calcs. Sharpe Ratio = ave P/L for winners / ave P/L for lowers Best regards, Swish

Get Your Face Smashed By Gold Today?

I took it on the chin a bit in NEM. I was long from 41.60 on the breakout few weeks ago. Debated for a bit about hanging on as I hate to exit positions on hysteria, but since I didn't understand what the heck was going on and gold was so singularly bad today, I bailed..... Ouchie.....

    High Sharpe Ratio Traders/Funds

Per Ryan Jones in "The Trading Game": PE = ((1+SR)*BA)-1 PE = Pos Expectancy SR = Sharpe Ratio BA = Batting Average If I remember, he doesn't use the phrases SR and BA, but that's what the formula is based on nonetheless........ PE = 0 is breakeven (comm / slippage would be...

    shorting the jumping cat

heil, you just seem of sorta meander without much of a plan. why in the world would you cover what appears to me to be "the big trade" after only a relatively small move in your direction. seems foolhardy I'm not even going to read your posts anymore unless you tell us what your targets...

    High Sharpe Ratio Traders/Funds

I like Ryan Jones Positive Expectancy calc better than sharpe ratio. It accounts for batting average in addition to sharpe ratio. Can directly compare different funds. Unfortunately, also requires more info to calculate, but it's a much better number to know!!! Swish

    Long Option Butterflies

Anybody know a website or service that specializes in Long BF's?? Looking for a place that calculates minimum entry cost setups, preferably intraday - but daily would be OK as a 2nd preference. Thanks, Swish

    ETFs vs futures

I've traded QQQ strategies up till now and have never traded futures. A few weeks ago I saw someone make reference to S&P and Nas futures being better vehicles to trade than the ETFs due to a bit less volatility - perhaps better stated as a bit more trending intraday for futures when compared...

    Wash Sales

Does anybody know why the wash sale rule exists w/ the IRS?? What is it trying to prevent or what loophole was it trying to close? Only thing I could think of was might have been instituted long time ago to discourage manipulation of stock price through indirect volume inflation....... Swish

What's the best way to sell at the open?

are you trying to get out of listed or nas stocks?? why could you possibly want to exit long positions at the craziest, most erratic time of the day?? You'll most likely get bumped out of just about every position with a 5-10c trailing stop Does IB have a exit all positions feature that...

    Tradestation vs. IB

for the responses. One related question, with IB being its own clearing firm, does it still direct all orders to 3rd party exchanges or ecns? I'd be worried about the conflict of interest if IB tried to match orders in house. Thanks, Swish

    Tradestation vs. IB

I've seen a lot of discussion on this board regarding IB and some regarding Tradestation. The Tradestation comments are generally from folks that are familiar with pre ts7 versions of the software. As I'm trying to decide who to switch my acct to, I'd like to hear about pros and cons of IB...

    Uppers

Why not adjust your go to bed time up, even on weekends - you've got to manage your sleep like someone who works shiftwork........ Trading discipline includes discipline in other areas of life..... Sometimes easier said than done!

    Reward Risk Calculation

Probably shouldn't calculate on a daily basis, but on a larger group of trades. I calculate for individual strategies every batch of 20 trades or so.....

    Reward Risk Calculation

You should only use hypothetical risk when calculating share size, which becomes actual risk except for slippage while the trade is open. But to calculate sharpe ratio, which is done for closed trades, you do the following: average winner / average loser ($ basis, not points)...

    Slowness Really Hurts Us

My 2000pro machine was really bogging down recently. I'd never deleted temp internet files and cookies. I had something like 28,000 cookies on my machine and who knows how many temp files. I deleted it all - machine runs much better......

    Cheap Charting Software

I don't know if this helps, but the guys at eSignal recently told me they are going to have at least a year's worth of intraday data for all equities beginning about Nov.

    Trading the opening

by openings I'm assuming you mean very early entries in the first few minutes of the day?? I used to try to play entries above 1m highs and lows w/ stops just the other side of the minute bar - and that was INSANE!! Too much volatility at first and more difficult to sense direction. Watch...
