Black boxes destroying market for everyone

Sure. Let's start by limiting your trading. $50k margin per Spoo contract and no more than 1 roundtrip per week. Anything beyond is clearly "mindless" speculation and adds no lasting economic value.

The circular firing squad starting early

I think you underestimate Obama's campaign. Their candidate played the whole thing softly - if McCain had come out strong against any kind of bailout I have no doubt whatsoever Obama would have joined him. The winning bet on the bailout was always the minority position. Both Obama and McCain...

Dickweed In The Bow Tie... $100 Normalized Earnings on SP500? ... LOL!

Combining your two statements, it appears you are calling for 400 on SPX at some point in '09. Basically, a 55% haircut from current levels. Is that about right?

Nassim Taleb's `Black Swan' Investors Post 50% Gains as Markets Take Dive

A self-wanking group of iGrandized folks if ever there was one. That said, a couple of them do have wickedly good sense of humor. :)

Nassim Taleb's `Black Swan' Investors Post 50% Gains as Markets Take Dive

I don't live in Zimbabwe. Gold is selling for ~30% of its inflation-adjusted peak. If you want to cherry-pick an arbitrary starting point to justify your "strategy" - hey, it's your money.

What if I'm a Mac and not a PC

IB's TWS, Matlab and Excel all work just fine on Macs. Without knowing your needs, there isn't much more to add.

Greenspan "shocked" at credit system breakdown

First, I am commenting specifically on institutions taking FDIC-insured deposits. I'm suggesting that people are ignoring common sense because they know there's a blanket government guarantee. Any depository institution offering luxurious yields should be viewed as waving a huge red flag -...

Greenspan "shocked" at credit system breakdown

By chasing yield without worrying about the sanity or health of the banking institution offering that higher yield, you are Ground Zero of the "privatizing profits, socializing losses" problem.

Greenspan "shocked" at credit system breakdown

Ask and you shall receive... "Foolish liberals who are trying to read the 2nd Amendment out of the Constitution by claiming it's not an individual right or that it's too much of a public safety hazard don't see the danger in the big picture. They're courting disaster by encouraging others to...

So doesn't using "tight stops" necessitate

If that's the case, it sounds like you aren't well enough capitalized to even trade one contract. My suggestion would be to move to a less-levered asset class.

So doesn't using "tight stops" necessitate

The "big one" can only kill you if you're over-leveraged. In which case it's not the "big one" that killed you - it's excessive use of margin. With rational position sizing, stops are not only unnecessary, they're counter-productive.

    AAPL earnings after the close

If AAPL is selling for $60 a year from now, that will put it at less than 2x cash. Would love to load the truck at those levels but I don't see how a stock representing a ginormous mountain of cash (and 0 debt) gets that cheap in a Cash Is King economic environment.
