Yup. That's right. So why do great quants/traders don't start their own hedge funds? because they can't or don't want to deal with the biz/marketing side of the hedge fund right? Raising equity, tax, legal implications etc.

What's the pros and cons of investing OPM via each vehicle? The same law applies for both of them right?

What's the cheapest backtesting software out there? No need for any advanced features. Just need to be able to accept simple rules and backtest.
