Shorting is extremely risky in this market- losses, losses, losses

That 400 point rally didn't teach anything really. Except what can happen when everyone books profits at once. None of that was buying, that was buying to cover. 400 points on over a 1400 point drop since december, and somewhere around a 2000 point drop since oct/nov? a 400 point bounce...

lol, CNBC makes me laugh some times...the second we get a dead cat bounce they are like "OHHHHH LOOKS LIKE THE BULLS ARE IN CONTROL TODAY!!!!!" I would have no problem getting short today.

    Newb Question

You could have bought a put "at the money" or a couple strikes "out of the money." You could buy them in the money but it gets pricey. The further out of the money the cheaper. Time decay (where the value of the option depreciates) is the worst the last 30 days before it expires. So look at the...

How much of the mortage crisis was caused by pure speculation

They also did them as second homes, which in terms of risk to an U/W is generally the same as owner occ.

    The Elite Trader's Account Size

The goal in trading is profitability, anyone who has issues with how someone gets there clearly has deep rooted pride/ego issues and needs to feel they are "right" or better than someone.

    short crude

Ive been buying puts for the last couple days everytime it hits new highs, really just speculation but Im betting on a nice pullback. Its had a nice run and CNBC is pushing retail investors to get in now. When retail starts getting in usually the big money starts dumping IMO.

Seriously why do they make the spread for options outrageous

Very good spreads on these, a lot easier to trade.

Right now, real estate is better than stocks

Real estate is a great choice right now-- if you like buying high, selling low and losing money.

    Does this happen to you?

If you are daytrading, it sounds like you are "running with the heard." You might be waiting too long for a confirmation. For example, a stock may have turned around and be heading up, but by the time you think its safe to get in, you really should be shorting the pullback. When you buy it, and...

    Advice from you experienced traders

I say take a calculated risk and go for it. As long as you can support yourself with savings and you don't burn bridges at your current job you can leave yourself some options if you fail. Set up a plan that will tell you how long you can support yourself, and that will leave you in an OK...

    order not executed on Ameritrade

It doesnt sound like a fill was due. They go back and check T&S with any issues like that. They would give it to you if it was due from my experience.

the SEC needs to CRACK DOWN on RETAIL PROP firms offering 'jobs'

Yeah, it started getting creepy when they all had to close their eyes and "visualize" the trading day from the time they got up to brush their teeth until the close?? Sounds like some new age BS. I thought it was a prop firm not a Yoga class.

Check out these traders on youtube..

try to make 100-200$ a day with 13k

Anyone who says you cant make $100-$200 a day trading is projecting their own poor trading ability. I see traders making at least that if not 2-6x that 4 out of 5 days a week. Nice trading keep it up.

Lost money before in the stock market?

When I first started trading options (like my 3rd or 4th option trade) I bought some calls on AMAT right before market close the day before earnings. Bought them at about $.45 per contract. Earnings were fine but they lowered guidance so the stock took a nose dive in the after hours and...
