The road to becoming a CTA

I am a former cboe mm who has just started looking into the CTA business. I was just wondering if anyone on this board could share their experience on how they became a CTA. Maybe elaborate on some of the more non-trading aspects of managing a successful cta? And any recommendations for an...

    Death to options prop

Any comments or insight as to what this will do to the value of trading through a jbo account? I hope this isn't a dumb question, but I have no idea............

    Bottarelli Research

Any thoughts on this? My name is Bryan Bottarelli – and I entered the game of options trading in the most direct way possible – on the intense floor of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE). Believe me when I tell you…trading options is a cutthroat game. Standing for eight hours...

Y, I didn't want to put his acronym on the chat. He sure looked like he could do it. Didn't his wife come and pull him out of ceres? I peaked in there while it was going on. Bout 1/2 the floor was there. Good times.....................

Funniest thing ever seen at a prop firm

Some of my favorites from my days at the cboe- -TD tech guy trying to eat a full box krispy kremes, puking, then eating the puke. -Some dude ate like 100 slim jims in one trading day. Slim jim company wrote the guy a letter, first sentence-"We are so glad you enjoy our product." -Paging...

life after making mrkts on the floor

I am guessing that a independent local has about 15000 to 20000 in monthly fees(everything included). It isn't easy to cover given how well options are priced and that most orders trade at value. The costs simply don't line up with the profit opportunity.

life after making mrkts on the floor

I don't really know anyone who trades nymex/cbot/cme commodity products. I understand some of the guys trading options on interest rate products are still doing well. Only a matter of time before cboe/phlx/ise technology arrives and hits that side of the biz.

I just left the cboe floor within the last year and I like to hear what any former guys are doing now. Are there that many guys who go from options marketmaking to stock/futs trading?

CBOE trader seeks info prop trading

Agreed, spx and euro options are the best pits. Looks like the merc is increasing incentives to attract more flow to the electronic system. Spx pit is overflowing with people.

CBOE trader seeks info prop trading

How did you make the transition from trading at the cboe to trading eurex futures? Just curious considering we have a similar background. I'm really interested in learning to trade the futures markets. With options now trading in pennies, the advantage to being a MM is worthless

CBOE trader seeks info prop trading

It is very difficult to make money at the CBOE these days. The spreads are so tight and with all the added liquidity options are usually fairly priced. Very tough to find profitable trades. Are there any Chicago based firms that someone could recommend?
