    Fidelity Cash Reserves question

I think this one would be safer Fidelity U.S. Treasury Money Market Fund(FDLXX) When Lehman Brothers went belly up in September, I moved all my $ out of Cash Reserves to FDLXX for a few weeks until I thought that it was highly unlikely that Cash Reserves would break the buck. Fidelity has many...

    Stepped Down Cost Basis?

I'm not quite sure if you can just use the closing price on the date of death as FMV or if you have to average the high and low price for that date to use as the FMV. For estate tax purposes, from page 14 of the Instructions for Form 706 "The FMV of a stock or or bond (whether listed or...

    Stepped Down Cost Basis?

I used some real stock prices from real dates, but I am not going through this now. I'm always trying to plan ahead though.

    Stepped Down Cost Basis?

I went over to www.irs.gov and found the answers. First on page 9 of Publication 551: "Inherited Property - Your basis in property you inherit from a decedent is generally one of the following. 1) The FMV of the property at the date of the individual's death." There are 3 other listings but #1...

    Life without anti-virus ?

I prefer not to install anti-virus software on my computer either. I have Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-aware Free 2008. I use them to manually scan for mal-ware. I don't want an anti-virus software package always running in the background and slowing my computer down. I think most viruses are...

    Stepped Down Cost Basis?

I know, if you inherit stock, that you can step up the original cost basis to the value on the date the person died. For example, your father bought WMT stock on June 6th, 1986 at $3.09 per share. He died on November 19th, 2008 when WMT closed at $51.00 per share. You inherited the stock from...

    SP vs. ES Contract

Since SP is pit traded, there is a delay from when you enter the order to when it's executed. This could result in a lot of slippage. Also, if you try to cancel a working order, the same delay can result in a "too late to cancel" fill instead of a "you are out".

    Career advice, please

ThatsCapital, Keep your job as long as you can. Investment Banker is a highly sought after job and the money is good. I've heard the hours can be brutal, 90 hours a week is not uncommon. But look around you, I bet all your coworkers are in their 20s also. Why is that, because that's how the...

    Trend Followers Performance for 2008

How are the famous trend following money managers performing this year? There have been some big moves which I think would play into their hands. But volatility has been very high which could whipsaw them a lot. Anybody have any feel or official performance numbers?

    ES Slippage

On Oct 16th, 2008 I had an order in to Sell 1 Dec ES at 914.75 Stop. At about 08:23:12 EDT a big seller came in and hit the ES with pretty good size. I got filled at 913.50. That's 1.25 point slippage. That the most slippage I've ever had on the ES. Often no slippage or 0.25 slippage on stop...

CNBC: Is Buffett nailing Becky Quick?

Yes, Maria is definitely past her prime. I remember when Amanda Grove was in her prime on CNBC. Talk about eye candy.

CNBC: Is Buffett nailing Becky Quick?

I think David Faber does a pretty good job. But other than him, most of the others are just eye candy like the "Money Honey" Maria Bartiromo.

    Market Crash?

Swiss bonds would probably be a good choice if I were to plan to hold them until maturity. I'm not looking to pay a spread to get in and out of bonds. Since I'm looking for something short-term, I think I'll stick with FDLXX. Other US treasury MM funds are good alternatives depending where your...

    Market Crash?

I've got a lot of money in FDLXX (Fidelity US Treasury Money Market Mutual Fund). I hope to weather the storm there. Other than individual US Treasury debt securities, can anybody think of something safer than FDLXX?
