    Wall Street Job-Hunter Chronicle

The thought crossed my mind that I should probably get the job and not worry about one weeks worth of work. Maybe thats what the employer was thinking too, but when I talked to him on the phone, I was a little perturbed by his mannerism. He thought that he should be the one who decides whats...

    Wall Street Job-Hunter Chronicle

So this last position is a wierd scenario and like to get your feedback; Last Friday, had an interview, seemed to go quite well. On Monday I called them and they told me they would like to extend an offer. About an hour later I got this email stating that I need to go in for a few days to see...

    Bloomberg Question?...JOBS

On the main jobs screen there should be an option to post resume, review resume, and something else.

    Wall Street Job-Hunter Chronicle

Ok, so in one of my many rejection letters I found an interesting twist. Even though I got rejected, they are looking for referals and willing to pay a fee. The position was with a hedge fund, looks like takeover/turnaround, debt, not too much info on their website. So I guess if your looking...

I had an interview today. It went pretty well I think. It's with an independent equity-research/trading group. They basically present ideas to hedgies in order to solicit trading volume for their trading department. Kinda you scratch my back, I scratch yours sorta thing. I have to say I'm...

Giving Up on Prop - What Next?

I hear what you mean, but that's probably better for the guys that are left at the IB's. They get the volume credits and a cut of the P&L, right? Buy-side is probably a lot tougher to find a job, I don't really see that many postings for buy-side, some but not too many. You might want to...

Giving Up on Prop - What Next?

Wasn't Michael Lewis from Liar's Poker basically a Sales/Trader for Bonds? In fact aren't more and more of the IB's moving away from seperate sales and trading positions and creating sales/traders. Tech and program trading are allowing easier block trading to occur and less use for an outright...

    Wall Street Job-Hunter Chronicle

Everyone wants to trade for a living, sit on the beach on the islands and make a couple K everyday but thats an illusion for most people, and maybe even for me too!?!? So maybe I'll knock on a few doors, send out some resumes and work in an office dowtown till that day comes?

Again off Bloomberg I got a call and an interview on Friday. It's for a sales trading position but I'm afraid its not institutional sales, I just hope its not PCS or something and I have to cold call random people. I'm probably not down for that. There's hope Goldman comes through, I called...

    Wall Street Job-Hunter Chronicle

Next got on Bloomberg and posted my resume, took down about 20 posting and sent them my resume. Got a call Friday afternoon from a recruiter, wanted me to go straight for an interview with HSBC FI trading. She said she'll get back to me with a confirmation. Haven't heard from her yet...

    Wall Street Job-Hunter Chronicle

In the meantime I met with a recruiter who told me about some positions at Goldman Sachs-temp jobs in Credit Risk Management and Equity Research. Both temp to perm positions. Nothing happened with CRM but I did get an interview with Equity Research. Now I really don't want to do Research...

    Wall Street Job-Hunter Chronicle

Really nice guys, no tough questions, just an opportunity to ask some questions. Then I had to meet the firm partner in White Plains. All this time I was commuting from DC to NYC on the Chinatown bus. Woke up really early in the morning drove to White Plains and totally blew the interview. It...

    Wall Street Job-Hunter Chronicle

The guy was a little expensive but he was from Oneonta (I spent about a 1.5 years there) so we had a lot in common. Plus his brother was FI trader and was in the process of starting his own Bond Boutique firm... End result, the resume was better but I wasn't blown away or anything-and his bro...

    Wall Street Job-Hunter Chronicle

I read an earlier thread regarding looking for 'wall street' jobs and thought I would chronicle my own job search. Hopefully it will give some people ideas or at least something to laugh at.... Start out with my background, I'm 25, graduated from Johns Hopkins w/ an engineering degree...

Giving Up on Prop - What Next?

I got some great advice from DynamicReplic8er - If you have access to a Bloomberg terminal, there are literally hundreds of jobs posting as well as a resume posting board. Everyday new jobs are posted. If you've been trading outside a prop account, at home or swing trading, whatever- think of...

    Writing options for a living

HAHA, that's pretty hilarious, especially coming from someone like Mav. Reminds me of college-we sent out these pictures to print on everyone's printer on the campus network during parents weekend. Real NASTY ones too, probably something you would get arrested for nowadays. Think animals, women...

    Option effect

Interesting read. Once you discover the 'max_pain" what type of strategy do you employ? Sell a strangle? long/short the stock? And are you only concerned with this point near expiry or can it tell you something 2-3 weeks before expiry? Thanks!
