Why do 95% of retail traders lose?

Then you are lucky and/or a dumbass for not trading bigger size if you have that kind of consistency.

Why do 95% of retail traders lose?

I work for a brokerage firm and I can attest to the validity of these statistics. I watch the performance of retail accounts all day everyday and the amount of successful traders we have is definitely somewhere in the range of 3-5%. I see the same patterns among losers: 1) They hold on...

Any interesting trading/investing softwares for Iphone and Blackberry?

I have the iPhone so I'm only familiar with stuff on there. CNBC Real-Time is a great app with free streaming quotes and news and stuff. I also use this one site for forex charts that loads really quickly and has streaming data also: http://www.iphoneforex.com.quotes Lots of brokers have...

Hey guys first thread! looking for a sim to check outut

SIM trading if you are scalping is mostly an exercise in futility because they are easy to manipulate and fills are easy. If you're trading longer term, sim trading is useful but still not even close to the value you'd get out of trading small in a real account.

SHOW me the person who "fat-fingered" the trade that caused this crash.

I want to hear some stories about people that got filled on standing limit orders way below the market...AAPL traded $200 for a split second today, I would've loved to have been that guy that came home and saw that his order got filled there and he's up thousands of dollars.

not true all the time. TiVo wasn't halted.

    Is this illegal?

There are so many different scenarios where someone could put themselves in a position to hear news before bloomberg or Reuters ("before" meaning just a few seconds at least) publishes it. I'm sure the SEC looks for shady activity everyday related to this sort of thing, but maybe there is a...

    Is this illegal?

If there is a pending verdict of a court case that will affect the price of a stock, and you have someone sitting in the court room ready to text you the verdict as soon as it's announced so that you can trade on it, is that illegal? If so, why? I started thinking about this the day that...

What does YOUR desk look like?

I think a very high % of pro-traders use X-Trader to place orders. It's by far the best platform I've seen over the years as far as execution and data streaming goes. A lot of that has to do with how fast your connection is though, I'd think a T-1 line would be the norm.

Is this the key to trading successfully ?

In theory, I think you are right on the money. Most traders fail because they don't understand this and they trade on emotion with no real game plan. A supposed edge will fail to work in some kinds of markets though, it's impossible to find something with a nice smooth equity curve regardless...

High Frequeny Trading Quant "Traders" wanted...

Are there any prop shops out there hiring quant traders with no programming experience? That is to say, maybe someone who is good at implementing mechanical trading systems but who trades them manually instead of automating?

Getting away from trying to automate a strategy

I agree, you're constantly learning from your mistakes and seeing what works for you and what doesn't. You figure out what suits your personality, what time frames and risk/reward parameters you're comfortable with, and it's basically like trial and error. I keep telling myself that I'll be...

Getting away from trying to automate a strategy

I've been using TradeStation for awhile and I have built a few automated strategies that are profitable, but not enough for me to have enough confidence to go live with them. Every time I try to base a strategy on a specific set of rules and then backtest it and look at the results trade by...

Grinding it out, day after day

I see what you're saying, but I would think your average win/loss amounts would be optimized from backtesting and that's why you would need RR.

    Psychologically tolerable win-rates

Um, you can ignore this comment, Dackster doesn't seem to have a clue. As mentioned previously, position size is key in determining what you can tolerate. I've often wondered why more people don't use a lower risk/reward (like 1:3 or around there) to smooth out their equity curve. People are...

Need low minimum, high leverage broker

forex.com can take a credit card and the minimum is absurd, i think its like $200 or something. Great site, no frills. I've cashed out from there before, no problems.
