You're a scumbag. You don't even know the answer to the question, you're just assuming I'm stupid.

    Simple trading question about slippage

Is it true that there's a negative expectancy with slippage? If I place a market order, the odds of the market ticking up or down in between the time I place it and the fill should be equal right? Just wondering because it always seems to me that slippage goes against me rather than in my...

    Hedge fund, HFT question....

Thanks. It's funny that you replied to this thread because I was just reading your other thread that explained your background. I'm in Chicago, I'd love to hear more about what you've been discussing. I execute orders for a futures desk now, but I'd love to give prop trading a shot.

    Hedge fund, HFT question....

It seems that there are many people out there making extremely consistent money using high frequency trading algorithims. These people are well capitalized and have high costs / expensive infrastructure. 1) Do these people have any incentive to seek outside capital? I heard that some of...

Examples of statistical edges in sports betting?

Thanks, that BetFair video was really interesting and so is that database, I'll have to play around with that. I can't believe they offer that for free, I was able to run some neat queries.

Examples of statistical edges in sports betting?

Thanks for the references. I did see Moneyball, but if those questions were inspired by it, it was subsconciously. Wonder if there are any decent books out there on professional sports handicapping? Decent being the key word. Lots of trading books are out there with examples of edges, so I...

Examples of statistical edges in sports betting?

Anyone know if professional sports bettors / handicappers actually exist? It seems that these people might have the same mentality as a typical trader, crunching data to search for statistical edges. Are there any websites out there that offer the kind of easily searchable extensive sports...

Trade Desk Clerk - Salary Question

I work the late afternoon/evening shift at a futures trade desk and I make $60,000. That's probably on the low end, I'd also like to know what the average is.

Random idea, does this already exist?

A website that takes data from the masses on whether they are long/short a particular stock to formulate an aggregate opinion on where the stock is headed. I know people are data mining all the tweets on twitter to do this but I'm wondering if there is some website that posts this kind of data...

    Stupid question about stock shares

Thanks, that makes sense. If anyone else has additional examples, that would be great.

    Stupid question about stock shares

As I understand it, when a company goes public, they sell off shares of their company on an exchange to investors. After the IPO is finished, the shares from then on are traded between third parties. That's to say, buyers and sellers just trade the shares between each other and the company...

    Trading earnings announcements....

Just wondering what kind of edge one might possibly have with a 'finger on the trigger' type of strategy by trading milliseconds after an earnings announcement is made. I'm just speculating here but I would imagine you'd need to physically be present at the earnings event or communicate with...

OBL's death and the Silver markets

Osama Bin Laden was still alive when silver crashed so obviously that was not a factor. The timeline of his death can be verified on twitter. A helicopter crashed during the attack and people near the area were talking about it. This was hours after the silver move.
