This initial code is the main idea behind the system, but I'm totally unfamiliar with TS. No, the target is a minimum of 7 ticks, and a stop of 10 ticks. I could explain the whole thing but I'm not looking for a critique of the strategy, just the simple code.

How do I backtest this strategy: using 1min bars, sell any 9+ tick upmove in the mini-dow that occurs only within 1 or 2 bars? I may be willing to pay you to code this strategy in its complete form, but for now, I just want to backtest it and don't understand how to generate the code. Thanks!

Because the market moves down faster than it moves up. I think you're more likely to get stopped out on a short term anomaly like this one. Fear is stronger than greed, we're talking about dow futures here, the biggest market barometer there is.

Oh, and this is 100% shorting, there's no buying. I failed to mention that, thought it was presumed from what I was saying before but maybe not. Buying dips does not work with this, we all know why.

NO, the signal you're saying here is very different than mine because the point of this strategy is to capitalize on very quick noise. If something holds up 10 ticks above where it was more than 2 min ago, shorting might not be that great of an idea. We're working with seconds. Here is how...

I just discovered it now because it's bascially the exact opposite of what I'm doing, which is trying to buy momentum. I'm sure your strategy works too actually because your stops are wider, you just have to sit there and sweat it out if you're long while this strategy either stops you out...

Come on man, spare me the cliche trading mantras. If I'm going to totally convince myself that it works I have to get some criticism first. There has to be people out there saying why it doesn't work otherwise it's too simple so everyone would be doing it.

that's true, obviously you're going to have big moves up, but a lot of them are slow creepers where you could be shorting and covering lower all day.

ok seriously, im just doing some random backtesting right now looking at 1 min data over the last 2 years. This strategy is so simple its pretty pathetic, so obviously I'm a little leery of it, there must be a reason why it doesn't work. Just look at any day doesn't matter...if the market goes...

I should just set up a hedge fund to automatically fade all of my trades. Buying new highs is the dumbest thing you can do.
