If we rally the jan vol might come in while his nov Vega vanishes. if we sell off he loses on gamma and might earn on Vega but he’s rt flat at 1x1 so that might not happen unless we are really close to expiry.

I thought the same thing too. But my experience was that about the same percentage of sales traders and flow traders made it to the next level. Being keen with programming and a flair for dabbling in the markets is not a skill/personality exclusive to guys on the trading desk at a junior level.

the critical component that’s missing is the cash burn or profitability of the company. If scenario A, within a year the bonds may not have a recovery value of 100. That’s what threw me off. Its a great interview question.

I like brain teasers. no to 2 assuming stock doesn’t pay divs. what’s the answer to 1? Buy stock and short the bond? But no info on float of bond to market cap so you can’t determine recovery rates.

why would you ever buy the box? do you finance at better than 70bps? And if so, isn't there better use for your capital?
