Well, not quite. Many of the greatest traders in history have blown up one or more times, see the market wizards books for examples. You also have jesse livermore blowing up a few times, even soros blew up his own personal acct at one point, tudor jones lost 70% of his managed accounts on one...

Nothing works 100%. You could argue that the trend did indeed reverse to the downside, but then reversed again to the upside.

There is a way of using very tight stops like 5 ticks....I've done it in the past, but doesn't really suit me too well since i prefer to trade breakouts. You can see how large my stops are, usually 70-100 ticks. But i am a position trader, not intraday trader.

Was lucky, I had a big short dax position from 9500, covered most of it at 9140. dax closed at 9225, lows were 9102, massive retracement.
