Has the Fed realized QE isn't working?

I guess you would have to resort to slinging dope when unemployement is that high. You are right about blaming the mob, but congress is the mob pal. Fed is just forced into the (street) corner.

    Help, verify USA debt levels

I guess you shouldn't include future pension liabilities, easier to compare. Pretty sure noone does that. :P

    Help, verify USA debt levels

Hi, all over Swedish news they're talking about the crisis (duh!). But the numbers they are throwing around confuses the hell out of me. During the Obama administration: Government debt 65 --> 81 % Private debt 100 --> 90 % Corporate debt 80 --> 74 % Financials' debt 123 --> 95 %...

Has the Fed realized QE isn't working?

Don't blame the Fed, blame congress. What has been the explicit aim of the QEs? If it is to provide growth - then no it has not provided enough growth to justify the levels of currency debasement. BUT, if it is to avoid volatile debt and default of various assets - that has been avoided...

Foreigners slashed US Treasury buying by record amount?

LOL, that picture cracked me up. When the stock market sold off money went to treasuries as well. Although I think it mainly went to the short end of the IR-curve, but the whole curve will be affected. I'm no judge of how big this impact was.

    Greenback scenarios

After a quick internet search I would have to say yes. Benefits seems to be split into one basic component and one extra level depending on income tax contributions. The basic level, defined benefits, are like insurance in general. It stops everyone from being forced to have a huge rainy day...

    Free book on Euro Crisis

I think the points definately are worth pursuing. A good pitch would be to take one of the PIIGS countries are apply their input numbers to measure how much your solutions would help and hopefully the sum of them will make for a really impressive number. Maybe you could change the aesthetics...

    Free book on Euro Crisis

I've read it. This was in part meant for the section on fortification of demand. I think switches are okay as long as it is out of the reach of politicians. It helps but any of the PIIGS would still be hopelessly in a free fall. How do you think these built in stabilisers would fare in...

    Free book on Euro Crisis

I like the part on liquidity efficiency. I made a post in the "greenback scenarios" thread about how tax cuts for the rich is insane. They're not going to consume more with that money and even if they do it's unstable demand - luxury goods. I was pretty much saying the same things with less...

    Free book on Euro Crisis

Solution A: I think it's a great idea to use pension savings as a balancing mechanism, original idea (at least I've never heard of it before). How do you make sure that you don't end up in a longer slump and permanently have the low pension saving gear on? Didn't quite understand the bit...

When in doubt and nothing else works keep rates as low as possible, right BUBBLE ben!

For those who think QE3 is coming. What are the key dates, you reckon? Any opinions backed by some arguments? I've looked at the budget estimate of CBO and Government deficit is over 1 trn USD. That's new money needed and from what I gather foreign players are only to go as far as to not...

There are some big riots going on in England right now

Where is Vinnie Jones when England needs him? Chuck Norris would not have let this happen in the US.

There are some big riots going on in England right now

Is it a pack of blacks moving around fast or are other groups joining in as well? How do they have so much manpower?

    Greenback scenarios

Hi, I will look into the trustees. I'm prioritizing news flow as things are really volatile and rioting still going on in the UK. Social security would have been a superb balance check in the system had it been independent and only mandated to grow the funds as they see fit. IMO...

    Greenback scenarios

To me that just sounds like "I'm not buying between shopping sprees". The income from assets, isn't that dividends from QE's? Bernanke insisting on that they have not been printing is a credible as Geithner saying that it is in the US interest to conduct a strong USD policy; Obama insisting that...

To Piezoe: I am 24. The description of human nature made me laugh. I appreciate you telling your background as I try to be objective about things myself. Objectiveness has inherent utility (especially for trading) and I also take pride of self for trying to be as objective as I can. I can...

    Greenback scenarios

Just thought this up: Strictly looking within the US market. The US economy will stagnate in terms of real production as a result of this relationship: US economy is based on consumption, which is/has been heavily reliant on debt. Debt going south means the economy will go south. People do...

Wait, so is S&P going to downgrade the United States of America @ 8:15pm EST ??!!

http://www.federalreserve.gov/newsevents/press/bcreg/20110805a.htm I guess this clears up some of the mess for the moment. Treasury and other us agency assets will still be good for now.
