Why can't I get a job? Recent Grad, 3.7 GPA, Good Exp, Year and a half of searching..

Id say the degree is important. All else equal BS > BA. Hiring managers don't want to risk hiring someone who doesn't know how to think quantitatively. BS gives them slightly more confidence over BA. Similar and even more pronounced when you compare degrees... Eng vs English,Philosophy,Media...

Why can't I get a job? Recent Grad, 3.7 GPA, Good Exp, Year and a half of searching..

EEs MechEs and Indust. Es have the best starting salaries of engineers. CivEs are notoriously at the bottom (45-50). Also, CivE suffers from a feast or famine job market. Say what you want but there is a shortage of engineers and that is why it's such a great choice. And they are often held...

Why can't I get a job? Recent Grad, 3.7 GPA, Good Exp, Year and a half of searching..

I know this is of little help to you now, but is more for the 18-19 and under crowd. If you want a job that pays well, go to school and study engineering. Jobs pay well, they are going to be in demand for years to come, and banks/hedge funds love them. Someone just left my group and we're...

Currency Futures Trading usually begins with an Idea

A lot of what is traded is out of necessity in the FX market. For those people there is no "idea", it's a forced issue.

1.3 million to lose jobless benefits by year's end

I was about to say the same thing, and saw you had beaten me to it. On CNBC this will no doubt be good news.

Yeah I only trade front contract, as the market rolls I roll as well. I was Short TYU9 last week, I closed it out this week and rolled to TYZ9. Again, sometime Late November I will roll to March. I don't like using stops, as I watch this all day long for my day job anyway.

withdraw money from my forex account?

I am not trying to profit from Forex, just thinking of using it as a hedge. I am deciding whether to use forex or FX futures to accomplish this. Futures I know have tax advantages, just asking whether forex does as well.

Found an article on it (not the one I was looking for but does the job), there is also a news item from reuters that's decent. http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2008/10/fears-mount-in-japan-over-complex-yen.html Yeah the other factors were massive Treasury issuance, and investors who wanted...

Besides equities, I am trying Futures as well. Currently using only 1 TY contract. What is the maximum leverage you take? Although with Futures I am not planning on day trading. My aim is to roll and hold for 2-5 years.

Swan Noir, I got an article on it (neg 30 Y swap spreads) back in November, as I seem to recall it was due to hedging inversion notes. I'll see if I can dig it up at work, If you are interested I can scan and post (don't even know if that's possible on this forum). What do you guys do...

Let's not forget 30Y Swap spreads. Of this whole mess, to me, this stood out as the most peculiar breakdown.

The way it works is if A & B have a deal and the legal doc has been signed and executed, if A wants to unwind it with C they have to get B's permission, otherwise it is not valid. It is called an assignment or novation. A could enter into complete opposite position with C directly as means...

Yep I agree. In the case of AIG, both the company's own executive management, and the banks should have noticed and thought a couple things: 1) This is a giant insurance company which is & has to hold a massive bond portfolio. When credit ratings decline at least the company doesnt have to...

Default risk on an exchange is a real risk, it's just smaller because all the brokers act like a mutual insurance company. Funny thing is though, without government bailouts do you think the collapse of major brokers would have left exchanges unscathed? The myth of exchange invincibility is...

It just irks me when people say that market movements are random, as nothing could be further from the truth. And for people to assume CP risk isn't handled is also ludicrous. What do you think collateral management departments do all day long...play solitaire? Just because some dumb...

One gaffe these folks make is believing how deeply randomness is a part of markets. Take the popular phrase "fooled by randomness" and it's discussion in this thread. Even Geometric Brownian Motion's application to Finance for that matter is a theory...not fact What ever happened to...
