I'm used to working with linux and freebsd servers. The financial world seems to be sort of an exception when it comes to the choice of operating system. Windows is okay and the compatibility range is enormous indeed, but it's just not as stable as unix-based systems.

Yes, but please show me what data providers and/or retail brokers offer a true socket connection, that is not in fact handled by their windows based API. TT talk of FIX support, which in fact boils down to a (Windows-based) adapter.

It seems one still needs to run either a Windows-based API or FIX adapter. Isn't there ANY linux friendly realtime streaming market data provider, apart from OpenTick and the institutional ones?

Thank you. Perhaps I'm not looking well, but TT provides little documentation on how to connect directly to their gateways instead of via their Windows API.
