    Oil - BP = COP

Just went long COP as a long term investment. I was looking for a play on the BP news, this is what I came up with- too much uncertainty around the oil spill to go long or short BP.

    A Diversified Uncovered Writing Approach

I'm seeing a difference in mindset from some posters here. danshirley said it well, I don't just buy a stock or an option as a vehicle to increase wealth- it has to be a good company. This is why I have more of a leaning towards being long the stock. Good input from everyone though, thanks.

    A Diversified Uncovered Writing Approach

there's always some risk. If you could short options with no risk, you wouldn't get any premium. If you sold a 150 put on GS a couple of weeks ago, you wouldn't have thought then that the stock would fall 20% putting you ITM. It's a great strategy, but you have to be watchful, and ready to...

    multi-strategy options traders

there is a side of the argument that says XOM may be a better investment if they did not pay the dividend, and instead paid corporate income tax and then reinvested that capital into their own operations. However, it is not an option for an investor to invest in exxon without the dividend...

    multi-strategy options traders

mmmm... that sounds good. I'll have that. Here's a look at a potential trade I'd get into. Buy 100sh XOM -$6780 Sell 1 Jan 80 call +$90 Receive Jun Dividend +44 Receive Sep Dividend +44 Receive Dec Dividend +44 8 month yield from option sale and dividends:222/6690...

    multi-strategy options traders

XOM, JNJ, WMT, INTC, JPM. You're right. The stock prices have gone down since the company's started paying dividends. These stocks shouldn't have paid dividends to the company's owners. I do the majority of my stock trading in a roth account. Absolute return is my goal, with no regard...

    Nflx

Instead of a "bear trade", I made an "investment" yesterday, bought a few shares I plan on holding for several years. I'm hoping NFLX goes the way of AMZN and GOOG. 04/28/2010 - Buy NFLX 99.50/sh.

...buy 100 shares of JNJ and then sell a call at strike price 70. You may be surprised to see some dividends. Thanks for the optimism. I bought 2 contracts of PFE 20 2012 LEAPS calls, $1.04 per contract. I think that futuristically, I may be a huge winner.

    multi-strategy options traders

Hey all. I've been thinking a lot about different strategies and am thinking about beginning to trade using several different strategies. Long calls, long puts, short puts, and covered calls(for dividends). Does anyone else trade like this? Any thoughts?

    HP to buy PALM

as I've toted in the previous PALM thread, WebOS is awesome. HP is getting a bargain. I'd buy HP now- but I doubt that tablets will take off like other people think they will. IMO, simply put, the tablet is just not as good as a laptop. The laptop screen stays up in a natural viewing...

    Nflx

Really good thoughts. Also, if you reread my post- I was actually kicking myself for NOT buying the put. In reference to this, I think the more customers NFLX gets the better. Google had the same "plan" to get hits- and repeat users, without much revenue at the start.

    I went long puts.

this is a fine strategy I guess, but if you think the stocks you own are going down, the best decision is just to sell. I've bought/sold/bought/sold/bought BRK.B, and done pretty well. Things get weird when you're in a long/short position like a protective put that goes ITM or a covered...

Buying a Stock and Selling a Put

wow, so much "noise". I wish there was a way to delete people's incorrect posts. I'll refer you all back to my post at the end of page 2. These are two different trades, they do not mitigate risk, or have any combined value. It's better to think of them as separate trades. You could do both...
