    Youth Traders - Fulltime

Not full time, but I want to learn enough about trading so that if I get laid off, I have something to fall back on.

    Investment Clubs

Anybody ever heard of an investment club that swing trades? Most investment clubs I have run across are still drinking the "buy and hold kool - aid". If you have enough money pooled together to take on 15-20 positions at once, and use something simple as moving average xover and control...

    Margin, Shorting and IB.

From IBs website: Short Positions: maximum (50% * marginable stock value, short sale maintenance margin) or maximum (100% * non-marginable stock value). Short sale proceeds are applied to cash and the short position is subtracted from equity. So If I have $2000 in an IB account, how many...

    IB TWS & Firewalls

It might not work through your firewall. Check with the http-tunnel faq site. I believe that firewalls can be setup to block non http traffic on port 80... that would explain why it doesn't work for you.

    IB TWS & Firewalls

Does the login in box start saying attempt #3, attempt #4 etc? If so then you are not going through socks cap. Try this, socksify internet explorer, and run it through socks cap. If you can surf the web through sockscap->http-tunnel, then something is wrong with TWS. You will know that...

    The Costanza Effect

Did you ever see that episode of Seinfeld, "The Opposite". Sometimes I wonder if that would work in trading. "Why did it all turn out like this for me? I had so much promise. I was personable. I was bright. Oh, maybe not academically speaking, but I was perceptive. I always know when...

    IB TWS & Firewalls

I think maybe your previous attempts have screwed up your settings. On TWS: it should not know anything about the firewall. Have it configured as it is just out of the box... directly connected to the internet. Socks cap will deal with the problem. http-tunnel client. Remove all port...

    IB TWS & Firewalls

This is what I do: I run http-tunnel client to connect my computer to outside world via port 80 on http-tunnel server. I then use socks cap http://www.socks.nec.com/reference/sockscap.html socks cap is configured to send all network traffic to the socks server (which is the...

    IB TWS & Firewalls

I use http-tunnel.com to circumvent the firewall. Only problem is that your system admin will notice increased traffic on port 80. Other solutions include using a WAP browser either on your desktop or on a cell phone to enter trades through interactivebroker mobile trader.

    Random Charts

Take a look at this: http://www.ms.uky.edu/~mai/java/stat/brmo.html Run this applet, to get a random chart, based on Brownian motion. Looks just like a stock chart. I look at that, and immediately see trends that I could trade. For some reason this is bothering me...how can I see...

trading from behind a corp firewall

I just did a speed test... I get exactly 1.5 kb/sec with the free service, 110Kbytes/s with the pay service. I am only a swing trader, so I don't have a quote feed with IB, only use it to enter orders once every couple of days. But for $5 a month the service is a good deal I think. Probably...

DOW bull flag - on to 9500?

Reading the boards this morning I see just about a 50-50 split in the good traders opinion... if you look at a long term chart, we are just about in the middle of the bear channel, so it could go either way, but the momentum is definitely up since oct 11th. What i have been noticing is that...

DOW bull flag - on to 9500?

Makes sense... What would you do in this case... its gone up a lot, but it could easily go up another 1000 pts. Likewise it easily head to the lows. I wouldn't be surprised in either case.

DOW bull flag - on to 9500?

I agree... a pull back makes more sense at this point. Wouldn't be surprised if their was a false break out through to new highs before the pull back tho
