Mentorship (4th year still not profitable)

I've heard that said a million times. Now maybe that's true for scalpers being overrun by HFT. Other than that though I would say that an edge that stops working was actually not based on true price movement, and so it could not be expected to last in the first place.

Mentorship (4th year still not profitable)

Yes, I think it would if you were to do so 100%. That's why I said 'to a certain extent'. That 'certain extent' is needed to keep them from going too far out on the limb, which without sufficient experience will result in problems. I've found too often that those who are smart enough to learn...

Anyone trade TOPIX futures Stock Index?

2 ticks, 10,000 yen. But very few trade the Topix contract. It is so inactive compared to the Nkkei225 Mini, which is the 3rd most active contract in the world.

Mentorship (4th year still not profitable)

If one knows his stuff, and if the student has the ability to learn, it's not that hard to teach the basics. That fork in the road is the application. I've found that while not wanting to clone myself, too often leaving the student to go his own way, leads to disaster. So initially you have to...

Mentorship (4th year still not profitable)

Actually, I've found that experience makes up for the need of quick reflexes. What old traders lose first is the power of concentration. After xxx minutes of following the price movement your mind begins to drift.

Anyone trade TOPIX futures Stock Index?

You can't use a local (Japanese) broker as you're not a resident. If you want to trade in Japan, you could use IB or AMP. http://www.jpx.co.jp/english/derivatives/

    Why waste your time?

No, I think I do. But if you need a definition from the dictionary, here ya go: Troll is defined as the act of trailing baited fishing lines from a slow-moving boat, or a supernatural creature who lives in a cave or underground, or is slang for someone who posts upsetting messages in an online...

    Why waste your time?

Ain't that the truth!! And if the trolls could get this through their heads, they'd stop trolling, because they'd be too busy making money!

    Opinions on Interactive Brokers?

I used IB for the better part of 10 years. While their charts are as bad as can be (had to use 3rd party software), the broad range of settings for order placement etc. is quite good. Everybody and his brother complains about their service, but I never really had a problem in that respect. The...

Reverse engineering why indicators don't work

Yep! If a trader can make money using indicators, more power to him. But I look at indicators as being the pulse, and the PA as being the heart. And I'd go with the doctor who listened to my heart, rather than the one who just felt my pulse! And why does one need a buffer? But then again, if...

Reverse engineering why indicators don't work

Ain't that the truth!! While you're saying that regarding the use of indicators, I will say the same for old school TA.

For all you windows bashers, 8 years and going strong

That's good, but I got you beat. One of my computers is an 11 year old Dell running XP. Still runs like new! But just to be safe I don't even sneeze on it , and I pet it every day. Am aiming for a spot in Guinness!!

Talk about a Head and Shoulders formation - Apple

No, I didn't say your pattern is not 'compact enough', I said 'most patterns are compact'. If the difference between your pattern and the examples I sent does not hit you like something jumping out of a 3D movie, I would have to start from square one, and that would open a can of worms. But if...

Talk about a Head and Shoulders formation - Apple

Since your first post in this thread I've held back from commenting as I usually don't do so regarding someone's analysis. However, and please don't take offense by this, I so strongly believe that calling that move a H&S, is so far out on the limb that you are just seeing what is not there. And...

Annual PnL statement 2017 - Winner will be awarded a prize!

Likewise, don't say I said what I didn't say. OK! Now we're getting somewhere! So, the stock is now up 10%. How do you know that it will later in the day be up by 20% so that you can safely buy now and take 1%??? You said "That is the basics of charting". Now the basics have been around since...
