Can somone explain to me what horse betting and trading have in common?

Conditional probability is written as P(A|B). Which says what is the probability of A given that event B has happened. What is the probability that the S&P 500 will be up Friday given that the jobs number disappoints? Or you could look at correlation. If AAPL is .90 correlated to the...

Can somone explain to me what horse betting and trading have in common?

Probability. You'll get quizzed in it if you ever go in for a job interview at a trading firm. Knowing how to calculate conditional probability. You need to know the odds for the exacta, trifecta, superfecta, quinella, boxed bet, etc.

    The ACD Method

No, they are two different things. One is a sentiment survey. It asks financial advisors how they "feel". Most of them ARE long yet ARE bearish. They are long because it's their job to be long but asking them how they feel is still important. They accurately represent the investor...

    The ACD Method

One more thing. One of the last trades I talked about on here was the 30 day confirm on bonds on April 4th at 146. I mentioned at the time if you just had to try to short this market, go with the number lines! Get long bonds vs short spoos. Spoos were trading 1554 and bonds were 146. You...

    The ACD Method

Let me drop in for a sec here. I just wanted to comment on this perpetual bull move in stocks. While many here are amazed that stocks continue to climb higher without correcting, let me offer my thoughts on why stocks are not correcting. I have to admit, I am shocked to see this but nobody is...

Man, speaking of medical issues, I need to start preparing a contingency plan if something were to ever happen to me so that this thread doesn't completely die. LOL. You do know, you guys are allowed to talk to each other. Things are improving with the medical issue. I should be back to...

Why no prop firms for non "active" traders !?

This is absolutely one of the most absurd things I have ever heard on ET in 11 years. And believe me, that's quite a feat considering the nut jobs that post here. As someone who was involved with a prop firm for 8 years and who witnessed them get sanctioned millions of dollars in fines by...

    The Perfect Option position

You do know this thread is 9 years old right? LOL. One of the problems with bringing up old threads is not seeing the context by which this thread was created. It was created along with a bunch of other threads that dealt with basic option theory. It was not a "recommended" position. The...

Trading Networking - I live in LA, do I have to move to New York?

No, their aren't. That is my point. I'm willing to be wrong which is why I asked the OP to list them. Gelber is a prop futures trading firm. It's not a "quant" shop. That does not mean they don't engage in algorithmic trading, it just means they don't fall under the category of quant shop...

Trading Networking - I live in LA, do I have to move to New York?

First Quadrant is NOT a prop firm. Gelber IS. I assumed the OP was looking for a prop firm.

Trading Networking - I live in LA, do I have to move to New York?

And it looks like they moved from LA to San Diego. So still no LA firms mentioned.

Trading Networking - I live in LA, do I have to move to New York?

Like I said, they have a "small" west coast office. They are based in Chicago. And quite frankly, their Chicago office is almost non existent now as well. I've had 3 friends interview there.

Trading Networking - I live in LA, do I have to move to New York?

Gelber is based in Chicago. They have a small office in LA to accommodate a few traders that moved out there. Gelber is NOT a quant shop.

LA has ZERO quant shops. If I'm wrong, start naming them.

Socialist Leaders Condemn Wealth While Getting Rich

Nitro, you are missing a very important point. Yes, I agree with you that we are ALL hypocrites on some level and on some level we all want to be independent financially. Here is where you are misguided. These leaders are getting their wealth through power. And power is a tricky thing. You...

    The ACD Method

Natty broke out to new 52 week highs. The levels to watch there are also the monthly and QTR levels at 4.17 and 4.24. Natty's number lines have been pretty lackluster for awhile. So there should be at least a decent fade off those levels.

    The ACD Method

For those of you interested in the levels on AAPL, keep an eye on the monthly and QTR A levels at 412 and 392 respectively. AAPL re-tested it's 52 week low last week at 419 and bounced off it. But the stock continues to make lower lows and lower highs. It's 30 day is zero right now so the...
