    Day trading profit target

I do not really have one but just try and take something that is on offer. I only day trade indices and on a slow day it could be 30 points, medium is 80 -100 and good is 200+. I do it off and on over a couple of different markets in a 14 hr window.

Steven Dux: +230k today. $500K on the week

I have no clue if his results are true or not but you have to be careful with those that only explain the left side of the current market ie hindsight trading. It adds to someones credibility if they can make a live call and leave it published for better or worse.

    Trading the Indices on Fundamentals

With the current guy still living in the 50's running the show, this is unlikely to happen. A 2nd wave of covid is probable so I guess it is then a race to see if a vaccine can catch it in time.

How is retail day trading anything but a gamble?

Agreed plus you also need to know how to hedge positions in shorter time frames. The DAX can and does have some quite unexpected jumps so you have to be ready. For the most part it is good to trade.

How is retail day trading anything but a gamble?

I will take a look but I learnt long ago to trade what you know. Commodities is a bit like currencies to me. All a bit fickle. I do more than ok on the indices so that is enough for what I do.

How is retail day trading anything but a gamble?

I have had a look at the Stoxx before but the volatility on the DAX is higher. 100 point moves are not uncommon on the DAX which makes intra day trading a worthy endeavor. The DOW is really where it is at but not in my time zone plus that sucker can really move so you need to be careful!!

How is retail day trading anything but a gamble?

I did ok on the DAX last night :) Thanks for the link. I had a read through and it was interesting but not much else. It is obvious the people who did the research are not traders and seem to not have an understanding of how interconnected the indices are. Out of hrs, futures on indices track...

How is retail day trading anything but a gamble?

That depends on what you trade and how good your are at doing it. It also depends on your portfolio size and is really for portfolio managers. Not people like us who do not appear on anyones radar. Thanks for the charts but I have no clue as to how they were derived. A price change is more or...

How is retail day trading anything but a gamble?

That is a very sweeping statement as it does not reference which markets. I have read some of Maurice Kendall's work and the Random Walk Theory. As an academic paper written all those years ago it is ok but I am not sure it really applies to modern times with all the HFT and algos at work. We...

How is retail day trading anything but a gamble?

Well it depends on what you trade and the method you use to trade with. If you are playing in penny stocks then life will be tough and it is more or less a gamble. Day trading normal stocks is less hit and miss but you can do ok at it. There are other things like currencies, commodities and...

I Got this one wrong guys.....

That was a hard pill to swallow. Having looked at the trade I assume you were trading that as continuation on a pull back. For me that pull back is just too large and contains too many up bars in it. The good pull backs are short and sweet plus you really should let it come back to at least 1/2...

    Trading the Indices on Fundamentals

The markets are powering ahead and the ones I watch all look more or less look the same in shape. A couple of maybe blips but all bought back. No real consolidation or sideways movement so the next weeks will be interesting to see. It is almost as if there are no economic problems in the world...

    Popular daytrading account size

I am not a huge fan of the coin toss theory as it infers the market is some random beast to which it is not but I take your point that trading in itself is statistically based. There are many things in nature that are unknown and so we develop tools to make sense of it all. Trading is no...

    Popular daytrading account size

Until you learn and perfect what you want to do, keep your account size to a minimum. I only trade the indices and my rule is 1000 times what ever $ per point I am using. So if you are using $10 a point you need $10k. If you lose $1000 drop your position size back to $9 etc. By the time you get...

Big night thus far on the DAX. Looks like the fundamentals are coming home to roost!!

    Trading the Indices on Fundamentals

I agree. The daily charts on the indices are starting to look a bit sick. They have managed to recover from each sell off except on the last. It did not make a new high a couple of days ago and we are starting to sink away. Could be a drift down?? Looks like the next week or so might be...

Am I wasting my time backtesting my strat?

Back testing can be useful but you must have an understanding of what you are testing or trying to test. For a given set of parameters you will get a return number but that number will also be associated with a degree of probability. A 45-65% strike rate is very wide and for me does not carry...

    Trading the Indices on Fundamentals

I just had a flick through the daily charts and upward momentum is starting to drop. This week will let us know. If we start making new lows a rollover is on the cards but we have had a couple before that did not turn into anything. We shall see what happens this week. Super : if you are...

    Trading the Indices on Fundamentals

FX I agree with you 100% but it appears there are far smarter people than you and I controlling the levers! From a TA perspective we are still moving up but for how much longer I have no clue. I will let you know when I see something. We have had a couple of sell down on the way up but nothing...

    Trading the Indices on Fundamentals

There might be a strong move on the cards but who knows which way. FX gives some clues into the fundamentals but even then the market does what the market does. All the recent selloffs have been bought back so that maybe algo trading?? I am not sure but much of the market is algo traded. For...
