Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

It's not clear to me exactly how you trade or should I say what triggers your entries and exits. But that's probably my fault only as I'm not yet up to speed on your posts. I'll see if I can get up to speed this weekend. As for what's stopping someone who would actually know how to trade...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Well, all things equal you would have done way better if you started buying around the level you started shorting - accumulating your line as price went in your favor.

    Because only ES?

For a so called efficient market it sure moves a lot even in summer! :) Tuesday: - 40,50 point drop followed by a 32,25 rise. Today: - 29,75 point drop followed by a 29,25 point rise so far. Who's fighting with HFT over ticks?

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Respectfully, I suggested it as a potential buy zone (30-33) based on my own methodology as I was only curious if you'd agree. It quickly became obvious that it wouldn't hold - and also that it wasn't a level you were giving any particular significance. However, I note that the LOD yesterday...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Is this the specific meaning when it's been said that there's a difference between knowing the path and walking the path? Humbly, I'd say that this is my experience too. I don't think there's any substitute for experience. Maybe it's possible to shave a good few years off the learning curve...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

You seemed confident we'd see a drop TODAY prior to today's Open. Good call on that. Any particular reason for that...? Yet, while you profited on the trade, surely you took more heat than profit, yes? So what's all this talk about low risk trades?

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Well, that depends on the size of your losses, I suppose. Most run their losses fully and take profits too soon. Intraday buy zone here @ 30/33, yes?

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

I locked in a tick after that last push higher. No need to marry a trade. :) Well, it's my birthday today. So, I was hoping I was lucky enough to get 4350 before I left the building. But 1 tick profit is better than a loss. :)

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

True. You never use stops? A focus in this thread have been low risk entries and taking small losses, so it's a bit odd that you don't use stops. Of course, there's many ways to trade, but that's not the impression I had from the trading style espoused in this thread. Personally, my trading...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Well, I've had plenty of bad luck. Gotta have some good luck once in a while too. :)

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

I'm not too crazy about a long from this area myself as we could easily see either a shallow pullback, a medium size pullback or a deeper one from this zone. Big picture it's my view we're a bit overextended to the upside, but I'm still bullish for July meaning I'll buy a pullback. That's why...

Added one and tightened my stop. It works or it doesn't. :)

I think I got the LRE, but best to not be too greedy at these levels. :)

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

It is of course true that many market participants experience pain, frustration and other negative emotions. But, they brought it on themselves and it's a result of their own actions - not the market. :)

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Respectfully, I have to disagree with this as this suggests the market is personal or some kind of living entity. The market is nothing but the continuous matching of orders crossing off against each other day after day as price goes up, down or sideways. Completely impersonal. It's just that -...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

FWIW, and that might not be much, I think there's a genuine possibillity we'll print 4400 before any substantial pullback.

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Well, that's not obvious to me just by glancing at those charts. Should it be? But from what I'm looking at, I'd say 4310 and 4286 would be the initial targets below. Is it your experience that put/call ratios can offer worthwhile clues for overall market direction?

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Meaning...? While I do at times attempt to predict the market, I won't make an attempt to predict June or even next week, but there are statistical biases and patterns that help not getting on the wrong side of the market. Bullish July being one of them. Of course - if someone would use that...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

You may have to wait until August, though. :) July is generally a bullish month. In 2019 we didn't even dip below the June Close for the entire month. TIME = $$$. But being on the wrong side of the market for a sustained period of time is an opportunity loss, too.

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

That story or a variation of it is only all too common, I'm afraid. :) The other is when you wait to liquidate for a large loss just as the market reverses.
