The stock markets in the Biden era - will volatility diminish?

An attempt at normalizing these values. 1. RTH ranges as % of S&P Close price. 2. Daily sum of points as % of S&P Close price. Comparatively, the difference seems less now, but 2020 was extreme either way.

The stock markets in the Biden era - will volatility diminish?

Surely that time will be if volatility shrinks? Right now, I don't imagine there are many markets that are better for short term trading than US indices. There's both plenty of movement and liquidity.

The stock markets in the Biden era - will volatility diminish?

You're not stupid and just from a quick visual it can seem like adjusting for nominal values the difference is not as pronounced. :) I'm a bit busy right now, but will try to normalize this data by dividing RTH Range / S&P Closing price. For the record: The data above is from 09:30 - 04:00...

The stock markets in the Biden era - will volatility diminish?

So, it seems like the US is getting a new president. Say what you want about Trump, but there's no denying that the markets under Trump have been a great market for short term traders. Under Obamas administration there were still periods of volatility, but on average it was far more dull than...

From Micros to Millions: 2% per day

Isn't it usually the other way around? :) My day trading size is usually 5x my swing trades as my swing trades require larger stops on average. So, 50 points on a swing trade is the equivalent of 10 points on a day trade. Simple example. Regardless of that, I don't see why a trader...

From Micros to Millions: 2% per day

This is a very hard question to answer, I think. Generally, I'd say most people underestimate what it takes to become a successful trader and 3 years in this business is just about enough to get a general overview of the markets and various strategies. That's for the lonely retail trader without...

From Micros to Millions: 2% per day

I feel the other way to be honest. When I have overnight trades on or swing trades I'm constantly thinking about it and checking my positions. Even if it's well in the green. That's when I lose sleep and may even wake up in the middle of the night and check positions on my cell phone. I won't...

From Micros to Millions: 2% per day

I suggested to you earlier that you could experiment with trailing a stop behind price. Just by luck alone you should be able to capture a few big ones with this method assuming your entries are generally good. The optimal long trade on any time frame is to buy near a swing low and sell near a...

    Trading Eurostoxx50 and S&P500 CFD's

Do you have extensive experience with both? I’d be curious to hear how you would compare these two markets. Good luck. :)

    Well, that was unexpected...

How could anything be unexpected on Election Night? It's not like it's something we haven't seen earlier this year either. :)

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

Gap from the 27th of October filled just now @ 83,25. Okay. 2 ticks shy.

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

People who? From what I've seen - a lot of people seem to think that we'll see a rally in equities post-election. Myself included. Personally, I was not anticipating a crash. Just another leg down into election night. I still think that's in play. If we instead continue rallying from here -...

Technically, the market does indeed look bullish from here.

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

Only beer money lost. Small size, but would have turned out well in the event of a large drop. I got stopped out @ 25 overnight. I suppose I'm doing the cardinal mistake of trading what I think should happen instead of what's actually happening. 3350 looks like a nice short entry from here...

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

Thanks. :) Disappointing follow through to the down, though. Still holding a small short position from earlier which I will hold overnight. More of an intuitive risk-off trade as this is not what I normally do (short term day trades).

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

End of year is a long time coming for a short term trader, vanzandt. What's your call for tomorrow? :) I try to keep an open mind at all times, but it just seems to hard to not see us make at least a leg down towards 3250 by tomorrow and probably as soon as today. The counter argument is...

Will we see 3220-3200 by today or tomorrow? Cast your votes. I vote yes. :)

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

We may very well open above 3300, but I'd be surprised if we can sustain a rally above that level and leave Friday behind already today? My guess is that if we do open above 3300 - we'll fairly quickly drop back below. Staying short here. Good luck all.

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

Beer money at risk here. Putting the stop @ 3305 on all three. This was the run up I imagined could happen, but will honestly say I thought it was not going to at this point in time. I'd be slightly surprised to see us rip higher above 3300 in today's RTH session, but you never know and someone...
