In Bailouts, Spain Will Be 'the Biggie':Strategist, I say there is no need to worry!!

I am a nice guy, I don't wanna attack nobody... On the other hand, people didn't care about AIB, 'cause it was a regional Irish play. Where did that get us?

In Bailouts, Spain Will Be 'the Biggie':Strategist, I say there is no need to worry!!

Spain, if it happens, will be a "an event", that's for sure. Ireland and Greece are total peanuts compared to Spain. In fact, the point of the Greece/Ireland etc efforts is to forestall the contagion that eventually will topple Spain. So far these efforts seem to have amounted to nuthin' much.

US Banks Face $100 Billion Capital Shortfall? Again no need to worry!!!

Actually, Basel III attaches very little significance to short-term capital that the banking system obtains from central banks. So it really has nothing to do with Ben Bernanke, unless he decides to become a buyer of last resort of bank bonds. If Basel III (and, god forbid, the NSFR) is...

Ireland Says It Doesn't Need A Bailout 11/15/10 WTF!!!!

Well, lots of things can happen in a week, which is exactly what occurred in the Irish case. The mkt went a bit postal on Irish guvvies, as well as bank debt, so Ireland had no choice but to go to the EU/IMF. As to lessons being learned, who says we're not learning? I am going to pay so...

    Should the USD be abolished?

Currency unions, including both the US and the EMU, are first and foremost political constructs, which with passage of time, as well as some pain and suffering, may evolve into economic unions. The USD currency union is what it is today after a 100+ years of evolution and a lots of conflict...

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

Thanks, Doctor... Apart from other points I might find questionable here, can you pls refine the point you're making? Do you propose an index that consists of electricity and tuition costs only? Or are you suggesting that BLS should raise the weights of electricity and education in the...

A ticking, aging time-bomb in JGBs

Covered shorts in JS91 at 36bps; don't think we're in for a crazy selloff here.

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

As I have said before, I have yet to see any specific evidence of all this "substitution and adjustment" malfeasance that you're referring to. [B] Well, it's not just technology prices, is it? I can offer you all sorts of anecdotal evidence of prices falling. Unfortunately, I am not...

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

You're cherry-picking, obviously... Moreover, you still haven't proposed a viable alternative that we can meaningfully examine. You've been ranting about how bad our current methodology is, and I, for one, might agree with your analysis of a few of the flaws that you have pointed out. But...

The Credit Crisis Financial Stocks Short Journal

Personally, I don't see anything that wrong about stealing from the Chinese (the $ holders) by printing money. After all the Chinese have been stealing from us eejits in the West for decades, albeit with our full knowledge and cooperation. [B] Well, I have lived in the US and outside the US...

Germany and UK leading Ireland bailout

If only it were just the banks... Did you know that UK exports more to Ireland than to all the BRICs taken together?

Yeah, although I have yet to see any signs of this here...

anyone trading 2-5-10 yr or 5-10-30 yr US treasury butterflys

True dat and butterflies in cash bonds are perfectly doable, albeit not on a h-f basis (since I am more EUR focused it's more MTS than TradeWeb for me, although both are poor these days). For some reason, I thought the OP was referring to bond futures, rather than bonds.

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

Well, I do disagree with BR. Point is that I have seen all sorts of claims that CPI is manipulated etc. However, I am yet to see any specific evidence of this manipulation, a good in-depth analysis of the methods used and a meaningful alternative. The latter is changing with the Google CPI...

anyone trading 2-5-10 yr or 5-10-30 yr US treasury butterflys

It can be done, I suppose, but I can't imagine doing it in h-freq mode, tbh. Liquidity isn't gonna be good enough for that, I would imagine, but, then again, I haven't really tried it that way.

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

Well, I am going to have to disagree, 'cause it's one of the few transparent and relatively comprehensive analyses of the calculation, based on reasonably sound logic, rather than random claims of govt conspiracies etc. [B] Well, how do you know that this bubble isn't still a-popping...

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

You guys ever heard of the Boskin Commission? On another note, I have a question. The massive 2008 commodity price spike (driven to a large degree by crude prices), did that cause a hyperinflationary episode? If not, why?

Merkel tells collapsing Ireland to accept German hegemony.

EUR 50bn is what the Croke Park deal was all about... The govt has sorta manoeuvred itself into a corner. To achieve what cuts they have been able to make already they had to promise to keep certain sacred cows inviolate. Unfortunately, these very cows have come back to haunt them...

Merkel tells collapsing Ireland to accept German hegemony.

There's a big difference between what's going on in Greece and in Ireland.
