    Why Trading is so Hard

Most trading, except those that have an arb strategies, are trying to predict the future based on the the past and present data sets of information. Then you are making assumptions that what happened in the past, will repeat that pattern over the same time period that happened before. The...

How to analyze options Time & Sales in thinkorswim

I said I did not know. How do you know? And if you did know, how do you know if the client was buying or selling the put? How can you tell if it was paired with aVX future? Even if you did know for sure, not sure what value it has to a trader after the fact. We have no idea what else the...

Investing in stock with an LLC/LLP

Your LLC agreement should spell out who each person is, what their role is, what each person can do, and how they are compensated. I would suggest contacting a professional for help in the country where your entity will reside. Bob

How to analyze options Time & Sales in thinkorswim

Looks like someone did a 20c/20p spread. Without calling the floor it is hard to tell if it was Buy/Buy, Sell/Sell, Sell/Buy or Buy/Sell from the client.

How long after a new NYSE listing is there an options chain for the underlying?

My mistake. You are correct. I read it too quickly.

How long after a new NYSE listing is there an options chain for the underlying?

That would be incorrect. The company has control over listing their security not derivatives of their security. The OCC is 100% in charge of what is listed as they are the counter-party for all cleared option trades.

What are some rules of thumb used by good options trading practioneers?

Most retail traders are making option decision based on their expectation of stock movement or expect lack of movement vs evaluating the options. In that case, the same standards should apply. If you need to get long or short, pick your spots. Then you also have to be aware of how and when...

Getting filled on the opening auction

If your software targets the primary, you get the opening auction of the primary, not the first trade.

Is it advisable to enable "trades allowed outside of regular hours" all the time for forex futures?

Interesting. That is a product of using a retail oriented platform that wants to do a lot. In futures, there is no concept of outside regular trading hours.

    Settled cash, question

I responded to your private message but also wanted to post publicly. Time of day of each transaction or assignment is not relevant. What is relevant is settlement date. If on settlement date you have a debit balance that exceeds the liquidating equity you will be charged interest from...

    Choppy Trading and Mentality

Can you provide a example of what happened? The reality is that all traders hit a bad patch. I suggest you do what seems the hardest. Take a week off, ignore the market and have fun. Then come back fresh and start over. Paper trading is a waste of time IMO unless you are a new trader.

    GLD implied volatility

You just answered your own questions. Each political shock and fear that in the past forced investors to run to gold, no longer does that. I trade GLD options as a Market Maker on the AMEX pre-2010. Back when Gold was moving up daily, all the call volume was buying OTM calls. When I say all, I...
