Price action: confirming recession in 2008?

I don't think there is a way of telling ever how long/deep a recession (any recession) will be before it actually happens.

Eddie Lampert backs up the truck on Citigroup

BOSTON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Hedge fund manager Edward Lampert, who built a reputation for finding undervalued stocks, boosted his stake in Citigroup Inc (C.N: Quote, Profile, Research) 12 percent during the third quarter, according to a regulatory filing on Wednesday. But his holdings are now...

Price action: confirming recession in 2008?

I am trying to remain agnostic to economic forecasts, but some of the market price action feels like it's pricing in a definite recession within 6-12 months, just looking at the charts without any emotions. Opinions/comments/additions welcome: 2 year yield vs. Fed Fund Target Rate spread now...

Fed injects $47.25 billion in temporary reserves

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve on Thursday pumped its biggest temporary daily infusion into the U.S. banking system since just after the September 11, 2001 attacks as short-term lending rates rose on both sides of the Atlantic. Even though some news about bank write-downs from...

Cramer burning out and comtemplating retiring?

All this "Cramer is a bad trader", "He was wrong on stock XYZ", "He was all pre-Reg FD" etc. etc. Yes all this is true. But what's also true is that this guy started with $0 and ended with $50m. Gotta respect the facts. My hat is off to him (and to anybody else with that track record!), even...

Cramer burning out and comtemplating retiring?

From Cramer's blog, looks like he is getting so frustrated and feels helpless with people ripping into him: Last night after I finished the live auction at St. Jude's Wall Street division, I was immediately accosted, right from the podium, by a woman who said I had lost her her life savings...

    Cramer fires back

Long eq fund? You mean long bias. Re 2000: From Cramer article at thestreet.com posted yesterday "I am human. I get things wrong. So why don't the pros attack me? Because being wrong is part of the game, like the $300 million I lost in 2000. And the $450 million I made."

    Double short China ETF

Nope, big volatility and large % moves don't positively correlate with good risk/reward setups for my discipline.

    Double short China ETF

I'd only risk shorting once the China charts have clearly rolled over, made a series of lower highs and momentum turned clearly negative. Otherwise the risk/reward ratio is too high (for my taste).

    Cramer fires back

Not true. We all know his famous March 2000 speech touting some Inet stocks. His fund was down huge March/April 2000. He dumped them a month later and went net short the space. I read an article the other day saying he made $150m in 2000 by the end of the year after that big draw down.

    Cramer fires back

I read his fund made +$150m in 2000 (Jan - Dec) with a big drawdown in April. Where did he blow up?

Same playing field for all other hedge funds. Still outperformed the HFRI index throughout the 90s.

    Cramer fires back

I agree with that. I don't know why he's putting himself through all this "teaching people at home how to make money". He should retire and stop all this bookwriting/TV/website BS. He's probably costing the average viewer more money than they make off him. Either people get it or they don't...

    Cramer fires back

Doesn't matter in my book. He made more money in the markets than all the amateurs laughing about him combined. $$$ is the only metric that counts. Not stupid "He said sell GOOG and it went up afterwards". That's just childish. Funny I defend Cramer but my hat is off to anyone that makes...

    Cramer fires back

He made himself and his investors hundreds of millions in the markets with his hedge fund. Hard to label him "terrible". Like him or not, he started with $0 and now he's worth $200m. That's all the proof we need.
