Spain scraps health benefits for illegal immigrants

I don't think you read the article closely enough. I found a few mentions of the fun 'n games preceding the election. I am curious, though, about you referencing Time, which, if my understanding is correct, is part of mainstream media that is inherently biased and is not to be trusted. In...

Spain scraps health benefits for illegal immigrants

That is undoubtedly true, although judging by the demonstrations and the polls going into the election, the attempted deception was the real deal-killer.

Spain scraps health benefits for illegal immigrants

No, Spain voted their Conservative government out of office, because they were caught lying to Spanish citizens right before the elections.

How Obama improved the economy and saved us from a depression

If I might expand on the point I made above... H.R. 1461, which was introduced by Richard Baker (R-LA) and co-sponsored by 19 other Republican Congresspeeps, passed the Republican House (but not the Republican Senate). It "sought to increase GSE support for low-income housing and would permit...

    Global Macro Trading Journal

Ah, yes, I see... Well, there's a bit of a problem trying to imply a probability distribution out of those. The zero bound sorta f*cks everything up (referring to swaptions, which is the only mkt that exists that far out).

Hell, no. Swaptions, for sure, but not USTs or UST futures. Also, when you say "call options on USTs", do you mean call options on the UST yield? I.e. you're looking for a way to be short the treasury mkt?

    It's a very subjective exercise.

How Obama improved the economy and saved us from a depression

Well, I am referring to smth that is a matter of historical record. Both Democrats and Republicans attempted GSE regulator reform (in 2003 and 2005). In fact, during 2003, when the Republicans controlled the House, the Senate and the White House (if I am not mistaken), H.R. 2575, H.R. 2803, S...

How Obama improved the economy and saved us from a depression

This is factually incorrect. See my post in another thread.

This, as usual, is a really interesting document that sorta answers some questions. Could be one reason for the strength of GBP: http://www.snb.ch/ext/stats/balsnb/pdf/deen/A3_2_Devisenanlagen_der_SNB.pdf

Derivatives: The Unregulated Global Casino for Banks

I dunno... I am encouraged by the fact that there appears to be a mini shareholder revolt occurring as we speak. Moreover, in the UK they have done something similar w/pension trustees, so there's hope. However, who knows...

Can anyone explain to me the 'Valuation Date' for Futures

Probably not very, in an overwhelming majority of cases. [B] It's the official price at which contracts are settled at maturity. And no, you probably can't trade there.

Can anyone explain to me the 'Valuation Date' for Futures

Normally, value date (v/d) is the same thing as settlement date (s/d). V/D shouldn't have anything directly to do with the settlement price (EDSP), which is an official price published by the exchange (the rule to calculate the EDSP will differ depending on the exchange). However, this may or...

you think republican policies are better for job creation?

I have no beef whatsoever in this discussion, but I do try to respond to questions about the housing crisis whenever I can, in order to prevent politics from clouding the issue any further. So here goes: [B] President Carter, in 1977, I believe. I suppose he's the one to blame for it all...

Derivatives: The Unregulated Global Casino for Banks

Yes, but there's a difference, LTCM notwithstanding... Hedge funds go down all the time and, as long as they don't get bailed out by the taxpayer, that's perfectly fine. Moreover, there appears to be a natural limit to the amount of assets a single hedge fund can manage. Also, the barriers to...

Derivatives: The Unregulated Global Casino for Banks

Yes, that's also viable... Glass-Steagall all the way and make the deposit-taking, FDIC-insured institutions into utilities that are extremely tightly governed, with all sorts of compensation rules etc. Investment banks, on the other hand, should eat what they kill and enjoy no government...

Derivatives: The Unregulated Global Casino for Banks

Yep, I think that's a viable step... I, personally, would also be very much in favor of some measure of personal liability for directors. IMHO, that's the weakest link in corporate governance. Especially, in light of the Bob Diamond/Barclays shenanigans this week.
