Why you should learn to code

In conversation with a hedge fund manager (HF hedge fund all automated) with a blackjack past (Large teams playing in Vegas), I told him I like craps. He said do you ever make money and I said rarely, but my wife and I like to play as long as the losses are low, we look at it as paying for...

Why you should learn to code

The question is too open. My point is that for most, it makes no sense to program a strategy that loses money. For those that want to manipulate data, you need to program to do that, but that does not mean you have to automate trading.

Why you should learn to code

I agree that for day traders, automating their process can be very helpful. However, I speak to a fair number of programmers and math experts, looking to code an equity or futures strategy with little or no knowledge of market structure and little or no trading experience. They think they can...

    0 bid with volume

Zero bid is not a real bid and has no "size". It is a place holder as the exchange systems are set up to show two sided markets. You can't bid 0.00. Once your bid is executed, it is no longer represented in any way. If you pay 0.01 or an option trading higher, it makes no difference. The market...

Credits from Covered Weekly's (Calls / Puts) - on Future Options

No. This makes no difference. Risk does not change if you use 2 accounts.

Here is an example of short 1 June 2830 P and short 1 2950 call. Margin $5820 When you add the futures, $5876 or $56 more-for no reason.

The short OTM Calls & Puts have risk and will require margin. The futures offset each other not the options so they do not lessen risk or margin. And, the futures spread will have a small margin requirement.

The futures calendar will only change in value if interest rates or dividend flows change, so that is overall a non-event. You are now short a near term call and put, both just OTM. I'm not getting the value of doing the futures. If you want to be short the Put/calls, just sell that, reduce...

Have you considered trading FX futures on the CME. You get price transparency, good leverage, and the CME as your counter-party.

Victor Sperandeo was a wire I had back in 1982-84 when I was a floor clerk and then floor broker. Trained a few guys I know old school. One of the best I have ever seen. You should watch some of his videos and read some of his books. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Victor+Sperandeo...

To start with, don't confuse success with greatness. I was not a great trader and was very risk-averse trading with little capital as a floor-based option market maker. There was a lot of edge and I tried not to do stupid things. As for rules and tips, I have posted this a number of times...

What's more likely to be dead - CPU or motherboard?

IMO, this is a waste of money and time. As I said, all the parts after 10 years will start to fail. Save your data off your hard drive, use a service like Dropbox in the future for all personal files and buy a new PC that fits your needs for the next 5 to 10 years. I built my last 9 computers...
