A day that will live in infamy.

Funny and interesting how many people (still) think a "Jewish" race exists. How ridiculous.

POLL: should IB just focus on data and executions and drop everything else?

They should drop data and charts altogether. Instead, they should open their interface so I can buy two or three 3rd party tick-by-tick datafeeds and plug them into the IB TWS for redundancy. Same with charting. They should stop dedicating developers to improving charting at all. I am curious...

    trend following delusion shattered

Let's not forget MAN's heavyweight AHL, up 24.8% YTD net of fees through Dec 3, 2007.

    trend following delusion shattered

I guess John W Henry gets a lot of attention in the media but I think the truth of the matter is that he (and his performance) is not representative of both the majority of AUM and recent performance in the trendfollowing CTA sector.

Horrific Lessons in value investing- DFC files for bankruptcy

It's obvious you are not trading a real money account so how could you have ever lost any real money?

What do you think of IBKR - long?

I think it's a good thing for IB if all the newbies that need hand holding are leaving. Likely - on average - their accounts tend to be tiny and they don't generate much in commissions for IB anyways. If they can concentrate on the "pro-amateur" traders that know what they're doing IB can still...

What do you think of IBKR - long?

Stock looks like a good long entry on the daily chart. Good volume today, too.

Pay No Attention To The Man Behind The Curtain

Of course they discourage that because these guys are either not trading at all (Roubini) or are terribly underperforming the SP500 since Oct 2005 (Hussman).

Horrific Lessons in value investing- DFC files for bankruptcy

day7793, you're one of the biggest losers here on the board. Nobody cares if you understand or like value/distressed investing. See, e.g. I don't like daytrading but I don't call daytraders "idiots". If they make money with their style -> MORE POWER TO THEM! At the end of the day all that counts...

Horrific Lessons in value investing- DFC files for bankruptcy

This "fool" has averaged 30% returns annually since 1990 and has a personal net worth of $3bln. How much are YOU worth? What are your returns? Who's the fool now?

    Investing in Hedge Funds...

Yes, I agree with your arguments BJL. There should be no "one asset class only" approach. In a highly diversified portfolio, 10-20% HFs will help reduce overall volatility and improve risk adjusted returns. That's how the big endowments (Yale, Harvard) have it I believe.

I found this picture of Christian Baha from Superfund, it clearly shows how his business model works in detail:

    Investing in Hedge Funds...

Trendfollowing CTAs had a big comeback this year after dismal performance in 2005/2006. Winton, AHL, Brummer Lynx, Transtrend, Tulip are all funds with multi-billion amounts under management. All those doomsday predictors that were foresaw the quick demise of the entire trendfollowing style were...

    Investing in Hedge Funds...

"Most don't beat the SP500". The thing with hedgefunds is that NOBODY WANTS TO BEAT THE SP500. Investors in hedgefunds are typically not looking for absolute OUTPERFORMANCE of the SP500 but for outperformance on a risk adjusted basis. If you had 100m would you rather invest in something that...

Superfund's Christian Baha consults Michael Covel?!

Didn't reach a new high watermark since spring 2003, talk about churning their clients with their excessive brokerage and fixed fees. Last 4.5 years it gave investors ZERO return with HIGH volatility. Baha knows why he focuses marketing his lemon to naive retail investors:

    Investing in Hedge Funds...

I'm curious how on average they are awful investments. What other major asset class yields similar (better?) risk adjusted returns?
