There is no absolute definition. I guess the most generally followed one is a 20% decline from the top. I would add here that previously leading sectors and stocks should be annihilated (i.e. underperform) in the decline.

From what I saw Futuretrade's platform is native Windows, not Java. It sounds like they will offer both platforms (Java TWS and Windows Futuretrade) parallel to another but of course I might be completely wrong. Would love to hear first hand info from somebody with IB.

There is no information to be gained. SPY, the underlying stocks and the mini and big SP500 contracts are being heavily arbitraged against eachother. They contain no information "about the future".
