    Interactive Brokers margin requirements

Nothing better than leveraging up long to the hilt first thing in the morning on a down -400 point open and then complaining about getting wiped out!

With few exports and high interest rates Europe will go into a deep recession?

I am convinced the US will come out of this period of economic uncertainty that might turn into a deeper contraction much stronger than Europe. It always did. 1974, 1980, 1990, 2003. Nothing has changed. The US labor market is more flexible, companies can add and remove capacity with ease. On...

Jim Rogers: New leg down for investment banks

Problem is they were not real bad either. They were showing contraction but nowhere close to being a major disaster (yet) as many media pundits have been projecting since a year now (or make that since 2003). Also, ISM came in on the strong side (>50) after a weak Dec. number supporting the...

YHOO Gap Trade, Short Fade Documented on YouTube

I watched around 2 mins into the video. You entered short at $29 and change after MSFT announced a $31 offer. Fair enough. After being stopped out for a small profit, you say you were hoping to make ... holding on to my seat ... FIVE TO SIX POINTS on this short???? On the same day??? Speculating...

    hip hoppers begin property LIQUIDATION!!

Russel Simmons runs Def Jam records, runs the Phatfarm/Babyphat clothing lines and is/was involved in real estate development/business in the Hamptons, hardly a market that crashed. I read Simmons estimated net worth is around $250m. Hardly broke that guy.

So how long did the bear market last?? Less than 8hrs is my est...

As I said, go look at the charts of 1980/1981, 1990-1992 and 1995. I don't know if we're in more trouble now as we were back then, all I know is the media headlines were pretty much identical: unemployment, housing bust, consumer spent up, gold rallying, banks in trouble on bad debt, oil up...

So how long did the bear market last?? Less than 8hrs is my est...

Why not be open minded for both possible outcomes? Look at the charts 1990 and 1995. And 1980. Not every 5 year bull market is 100% DEAD SURE GUARANTEED to be followed by a 3 year bear market. I am not sure where you get this conviction from.

    JOBS number is horrible

Question is: Was much worse discounted in the markets? I see little reaction to the job numbers in bonds (so far). Let's see ISM at 10am.

Why doesn't MSFT buy YHOO thru the stockmarket?

I am just speculating, but if MSFT is eying 100% of all YHOO stock then buying through the market (and reducing float) could end up being a lot more expensive than $31. Buffet never (?) buys 100% of big public companies. He purchases 5, 6, 10% stakes through the market, over a period of weeks...

You buy this M&A rally trend and up, up, up?

NFP and ISM coming out today. Could be a party pooper. Economic Releases 8:30 am EST - The Change in Non-farm Payrolls for January is estimated at +70,000 versus +14,000 in December. - The Unemployment Rate for January is estimated at 5.0% versus 5.0% in December. - Average Hourly...

    Mixed 2007 For John W. Henry's Funds

No idea why Henry still gets this much media coverage. It seems Bloomberg discusses their monthly returns each and every month with quotes from their managers. Their funds are insignificant both in size and returns. Their results are in no way representative for the leading managed futures funds...

    Another horrendous Cramer call

Careful. Now they will preach to you how the average middle class family had a higher standard of living in 1910 than today because of lower "real" inflation.
