What risk management mistake did optionsellers.com fund manager do to blow up his fund and clients?

Reminds me of the definition of a gold mine... "A hole in the ground with a liar on top". :)

What risk management mistake did optionsellers.com fund manager do to blow up his fund and clients?

Ditto. I don't have a high % win rate either... but I also don't have "long losing streaks"... my largest was years ago... 9... but I've smartened-up since then. I have lots of "small win, small loss.. "jerk around" trades". But that's what's necessary to have a high likelihood of "being...

This is why sim trading sux! (But what about prop?)

Seems rather cynical. Even if noob traders blow up their accounts, the broker doesn't benefit much... just some commish for a short period of time. Seems hardly worth "luring" amature traders. (I suppose it's more for a broker who plays counterparty for new customers... assuming they will fail.)

This is why sim trading sux! (But what about prop?)

The real value to sim trading is to filter out strategies that don't work. If during sim you catch onto something that appears to work, try it out in real time with real money... but SMALL. You'll likely learn things you didn't expect.

What sort of fund structure can cause clients lose more than 100% losses when the fund blows up?

Bottom Line.... whenever your money is "involved" in leverage (managed by yourself or your agent), there is always/almost always the possibility of losing more than your account... stocks, options, futures, pooled assets, et al. Includes real estate in some cases (full recourse financing). One...

WorldQuant’s New Fund Said to Lose 9.5% as Chaos Smashes Algos

Everyone has become so accustomed to the "Fed put", they think the sky is falling after a few down days. Years ago a 20% decline in the market was considered "merely noise". Players coped with it, most by just holding through. Today's players should wish for such volatility to return to the...

How to protect your personal assets from margin debit balance?

    1. LLC can protect you against some legal liability. A brokerage account in the name of an LLC would have either (1) substantial LLC assets to cover any debits, or (2) personal guarantees. 2. Your Joint Ownership puts all of your assets and the joint owner's assets "on the line" for any and...

Recent read a story about some fund that bought BTC @ $40,000... Whoa!

Gotcha! Difficult to find a comfortable way to risk $$$ in a stupid-ass marketplace backed by "some ethereal hope thingy" with zero intrinsic value.

I lost 100% of my sons Investment shorting GE, Apology video soon.

Easy. Just explain that you "screwed up". He'll not understand right now, but will later... and do plenty of the same himself when he gets older.

Recent read a story about some fund that bought BTC @ $40,000... Whoa!

Bummer. With BTC topping near $20,000 in December, 2017... virtually all who bought in the last year are LOSING THEIR COLLECTIVE ASSES*! And sure, lots of people who bough BTC for "pennies" or a "buck" are still way ahead. Unfortunately, the majority of players (and the money committed to the...

The Poker Aces Playing a Key Hand in the $5 Trillion ETF Market

No, it's not a matter of being smart in poker. It's just a different kind of "smart".... but does not correlate to financial market savvy.

The Poker Aces Playing a Key Hand in the $5 Trillion ETF Market

QUOTE="guru, post: 4763143, member: 504791"](I don’t play poker) Obviously. Though you seem to have "strong belief/opinion" based upon this article. (Did you consider that the person who wrote this article doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground and is a dumbass?) The "big money" in...

The Poker Aces Playing a Key Hand in the $5 Trillion ETF Market

Poker champions? No correlation at all to the financial markets. Two entirely different skill sets. (How many have both, if any? And even if they do, they are not correlated, but rather separate.) Blackjack winners? Well, they've got some background. Personally, I'm thinking you're...

The Poker Aces Playing a Key Hand in the $5 Trillion ETF Market

"Poker and the financial markets"? Pfffft! ZERO comparo!! Anyone who thinks/hopes otherwise is a dreamer/idiot! A "blackjack card counter"... one who understands the markets.... HE could succeed.

The Only Options For Illinois Millennials: Fight Or Flight

If you're a "tax-donkey", you surely want to flee Illinois. Even if you're a parasitic tit-sucker... one day the hog-trough will be empty, and you'll go hungry.... you know, when all the tax-donkeys have wised up and left or have been "sucked dry". The greedy, corrupt government of the state...

Do futures for intraday trading work?

It's not a matter of "one vehicle working and another not"... they all work more-or-less to the same degree depending upon the trader's brain. The ES is the largest equity trading vehicle... ~$200-$500B crosses per day... must be a reason behind it. (And it's NOT because, "it doesn't work".)

What % of your income/net worth goes into the trading account?

It isn't your trading "account" that needs to be limited/protected, but rather your trading "capital". When you take a risk, think of it not as a percentage of your "trading account", but rather of all the money you have committed to trying to grow in the markets... aka "trading capital"...

    The MAGA Recession

Not my view. He was more lucky, catching the stock market at a time to cash in on capital gains. He did, however, try to cut government spending. Gets kudos for that.

    SPY Chart

Markets/issues spend a lot of time in "channels"... both small and large. "Touches" are often action points. The Regression Channel tool I used to have in MetaStock (Raff?) allowed me to "shrink/expand to fit", but the one I have now doesn't do that. So I have it in mind and "eyeball" it.

Forget MACD. Popular as it is, it's still a "2nd derivative" of price. Any trader worth his salt would have made his play long before MACD. When I first heard of MACD, I thought... "that's really stupid... nothing more than a waaayyy lagging indicator and likely not even good at that"...
