Unless its changed ensign used to set up a new data file for every time/tick/vol scale u used. And so every time you do something new it has to backfill all the data again. That could have caused the delay. Sierrachart just uses 1 file and will interface with DTN. You might want to try it...

Most programming options are not so different (including the neoticker code I've seen on the web and tradestation's easy(lol)language). An alternative is spreadsheet style indicator creation. If you can do spreadsheets (excel) then you might like Sierra Chart. One of the options is to build...

For entries I use either a limit or a stop limit order (not a stop market order). For worst case exits a stop market ... for trailing stops a stop limit.

Can you tell if it became a market order in the cases you mention ... ref def's comment about market orders. FWIW I would never ever enter a position on HSI with a market order. Can you do a chasing limit instead?

I asked def about the HSI cash index once and was told that its just what IB can get from their interface with the exchange. My guess is the same applies with the others -- and in this case the symbols exist but IB isn't getting a feed from the service provider.

There is the benefit in making the software / setup look bad that we will get less n00bs joining IB and causing unneeded support hassles (not saying that anyone in this thread except perhaps robin is in that category). I wonder if I'm fortunate to be trading off the Hong Kong server for Asian...

ZLT is a lot more flexible than Bracket Trader. That's why I moved to zlt rather than bt. If I have a position and want to add then I just put a limit or a stop limit on the dom and it will add it when the order is filled. I can make it bigger by clicking it again or cancel it by clicking...
