Professional grade Charting software - how to find good retail charting software

I am curious to understand why you eliminated Sierra Chart as I'm pretty sure that I would find it easy to do the things you described in the OP. I think I could do them with ensign as well although its a couple of years since I used it.

How to improve Java app efficiencies?

If your machine has only one or two processors then you should use these two together: -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode ref: http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/hotspot/gc/gc_tuning_6.html#icms FWIW my current line for Sun Java is: j2se version="1.6+"...

How to improve Java app efficiencies?

The suggestion to use server VM instead of client VM makes a huge difference to potential performance. I'm not sure why we use the -client VM for anything where performance matters. http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-3681/abeib?a=view

    Good Policy

Spyder, As someone who can't be bothered much about the Jack issue ... I still have to say that its really his own fault. The length and obtuseness of his posts can be forgiven but he sneaks in a disparaging attitude to those who don't perceive the world his way. Given how few are ever...

Satyajit Das:Bear Market of epic Proportions

Don't be so certain about Asia in the short term. Never forget to ask where the money comes from. Aussie gets its money selling raw materials to India and China. India and China get their money selling cheap good and cut price services to ... who ... ? And if the buyer is in a recession...

Running out of options on IB Charting solutions

Sierra Chart is by far my favourite (although I like ensign) but it is just a client of TWS like the others ... it doesnt have this sort of integration.

Running out of options on IB Charting solutions

I think I looked at all the 3rd party stuff and none of it integrates to that extent.

IB for longer tem trading - okay so far

hwkaiser, Given your timeframe you don't need a specialized front end ... fractions of a second for order entry won't matter :) Regarding charting first have a look at what the charting with TWS is like. It might also be enough. If it isn't try Sierra Chart (my personal favourite) or...

IB for longer tem trading - okay so far

I use standalone normally but use the web version if I want the latest enhancement (and possible bugs). I would recommend getting the standalone version and running it until you need a newer version for some reason (or it becomes obsolete and IB tell you to upgrade it). 875.5 seems pretty...

IB for longer tem trading - okay so far

I've put pressure on IB a couple of times to improve something I felt was important. They were kind enough to implement 5 second data (true highs and lows) in response to pressure from me and agreement from lots of others. I got really irascible the other day because they pulled 876 (which...

    P&L in TWS is unrealistic!!

Actually you might also stay with ib because: - range of markets - technology and 3rd party tools - data supplied - quality and speed of executions as well as low cost. Customer service, especially hand holding is never likely to be their big thing but I note that responses on their...

    I paid for 'the Secret'

adding an average down aspect to my strategy

Personally I see the big problem is the wording ... average down. That is taken to mean, by many, the process by which people take a losing trade and make it a disastrous trade. If instead you'd said: I have a multiple entry strategy which takes advantage of the noise in the market...

[IB] Freezing your account for their benefit

So it appears that the most important lessons to take from this thread are: - be really really really careful filling out IB's money transfer forms - old trader is confirmed to be an irascible old prick. Its good to get that much from one thread . :)

A limit order at the beginning

Who's the moron? It's a limit order he asked about.

A limit order at the beginning

No. Nothing is ever guaranteed in the markets. Imagine the scenario. There is 1 seller at 50.50 and 3 sellers at 51 and 5 sellers at 53 (theres a gap there for some reason :)) You have a buy order at 51 but 6 other orders or even just one large enough to absorb all the available sellers...

[IB] Freezing your account for their benefit

Fuck 777 .... I thought I was aggressive. If lots of people promise to do something and you don't know the management contacts ... well, most would keep going until they reached a high level of frustration. Unless they'd heard a story like this one and realised they'd better escalate fast or...

[IB] Freezing your account for their benefit

Its good that management got involved mk. Hopefully they will be able to look at your experience and make it better for people with similar circumstances in future.

    Why would IB do this?

LOL. No need now. Shove it up your ass wanker. The bulk of your complaint came down to: I'm to lazy (stupid?) to look up the information my broker provides me. Its amazing they let you trade options really.
  20. K

    Why would IB do this?

Keeping it polite. Now that you've finally looked up the details on how your broker treats the thing you trade (come on, who's fault is it if you don't do your homework?) Cash means ... when it expires it gets cashed up. Thats it. It doesn't say anything about futures contracts. CASH...
