Can a simple trading system work?

Good post. What works in the end is simple in many ways. But doesn't necessarily seem simple to a newbie. MAs are a good indication of trend. They are also a good place to look for pullbacks. MA crosses are something I tested about 8 years ago. Learn to use MAs and how to read support...

No, you don't need a trend

Fearless, You need to actually examine both options. You might well find that there is sufficient noise and ambiguity about the turning point that your results are much more satisfying if you give the trade this room to work. For an exposition on the base approach that has no...

IB - firm-wide system modification. Is your account affected?

I trade a lot and have had very few issues with TWS --- almost none that stopped me trading. I run a technically clean PC though and have a great ISP.

Best Way to collect IB tick data?

Correct ... IB will send a packet every 100-250ms (not sure what the minimums are) but it still provides "effective" tick data if not tick by tick data. Sierra Chart can collect 30 second data a year or more back. Note that Sierra Chart stores in a compressed format but can export CSV files...

No, you don't need a trend

Interesting to see this pft. I trade with the trend but used to trade something similar (but more mechanical) where I would take up to 16 positions (1 at a time) against the trend. Huge win rate, good curve, but those losers were murder.

Daytrading. The illusion of a TREND

Support and resistance work better if you trade them with the trend.

Daytrading. The illusion of a TREND

Looking for a trend doesn't have to mean seeking home runs. Finding the trend also means getting greater extensions and more forgiveness if your exit lacks precision. Changing the metaphor: when swimming in the surf its easier to catch the wave than fight against it.

Daytrading. The illusion of a TREND

Intraday "trends" are not rare. And if you enter with perception, even chop can be an advantage in position for the trend.

Can anyone recommend a serious Futures Trading training?

Frank is fine and his approach is actually simple. Profile charts just give a different way of looking at support and resistance building up and then trading it. I bought the course and don't trade it because its not better than what I do now. But it's certainly something that I could work...

    Racism can't halt Indian takeovers

Although I agree that europeans as a whole were no more brutal than others and during the age of empires perhaps less so (but there was an interestingly wide disparity based perhaps on national characteristics) ... I doubt your assertion that there is no science behind our becoming whiter...

    Racism can't halt Indian takeovers

And India needs to get its attitudes to pollution and Pakistan under control.

I trade futures and forex. Commissions are very reasonable.

    Latency of these data feeds

I trade asia and have only ever bothered with IB for day trading. My round trip delay is 100s of milliseconds. The round trip on orders is both an interestingly invalid measure and not necessarily important. Its invalid because if there is human decision making involved it will dwarf those...

    Latency of these data feeds

Latency between their server and the exchange is not the main problem although the member vs data feed issue could add a little. All will be MUCH less than the latency from them to you. The problem is that some will lag in fast markets. IB won't because they only send a packet every...

What is the best book on technical analysis?

So, what about using mas to estimate "accepted" areas of support or resistance and trading price action (or anticipation) at those points?

    TWS Freezing ???

You might want to try java 1.5 14 as recommended by IB. I don't but they report that they have some problem with 1.6 so maybe its hitting you. The browser based TWS has at least one patch related to connectivity (with the backfill servers though) so you might also want to try 880.4. I've...
