Credit Suisse surprise writedowns to cut profit by $1 Billion

Ironic how so much of the toxic junk landed on European balance sheets. European banks and tax payers end up subsidizing the US housing rout LOL

The Implications Of Schindler and VN

What do you think is gonna happen then, considering 65% of their allocation is in highly liquid bond, currency and interest rate futures?

Anyone know why futures shot up so high today?

European indexes were up. ES/YM etc. went up in sync.

The Implications Of Schindler and VN

    1. The implications of a guy with 200m or some guy with 4m blowing up - regardless of what university degrees they may have - is ZERO. People blow up all the time and the show will go on. 2. Yes, there are automated strategies traded successfully with billions of dollars. Of course, they are...

    Bernanke Should Be Impeached

Anybody who doesn't bash Bernanke to stroke his own ego is a "perma bull whore". What a child you are!

    Bernanke Should Be Impeached

Even if that's true, why is all that Bernanke's fault? Isn't the guy just doing his job, a little wheel in a big system? The poor old SOB is getting bashed on every board and blog yet he's just doing what he's paid for.

Japanese real estate REITs buy opportunity?

Whats the ratio between real estate prices and annual net rental income in Japan, for both commercial and residential properties? Always a good metric to see if owning/investing in real estate makes sense in a given market.

    Rick Santelli just went off

Why some people believe they can gain an edge trading when watching TV is beyond me. I never watch CNBC other than those Youtube videos when they have something funny to show.

    Bernanke Should Be Impeached

If the Fed did what many here on ET suggest (i.e. nothing: hold rates steady) the US would possibly looking at going down the road of Japan post 1990. What's the lesser of two evils?

Fed chief: U.S. economy will rebound this year......

Hmm the way I remember it Bernanke always said they see growth slowing to "below trendline growth" (0-2%) in Q1, Q2 and Q3 of 2008, avoiding a recession and then reaccelerating in Q4 of 2008. As far as I see it the jury is still out. I don't remember this Fed saying that growth would continue...

Fund managers hold biggest cash position since Sep 2001

The article doesn't specify, but it sounds like these are mutual fund managers that were interviewed. Most of them can't go short. Also you have to love journalists. Check the sub-headline: "LONDON (MarketWatch) - The outlook for equities darkened in February, with fund managers more risk...

    Trading in Thailand

How do you guys stay in Thailand (unless you have a Thai passport). Is there any way to get a Visa or even residence permit relatively easily (e.g. through bribing)? I read you can just stay for 90 days as a tourist and then have to leave the country.

tomorrow - ST. Valetines day massacre

Market expects the Fed to cut to 2.0/2.25% by the end of the year. Any (moderate) uptick in inflation and higher 10y/30y treasury yields would be a good sign as to expected future growth.

What is up with this rally?

Carry trade strategies have become more uncorrelated to daily SP500 returns about 1 month ago: http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/2659/63411776fh3.png Might just be a temporary disconnect.

What is up with this rally?

Interesting nobody is posting threads like these when we tank 3% accompanied by a similar vaccuum of plausible circumstances. We only need 'reasons' when we go up?

Rally in the AM, puke in the PM thats how it goes

1424.75 is my ES buy stop, let's see how well the bulls do up there instead of the middle of the range (like today)
