If you say so... To me, it doesn't sound like an unreasonable principle. Will we all burn in Hell because of this?

Well, you have to be in fear for yourself. If you can prove to the court that you were in fear just because the intruder was in your house, then you acted in reasonable self-defence. British law is, generally, precedent-based (common law), so I guess that's the aspect that makes things unclear...

Why evolution fails when compared to Inteligent Design

Haven't they just published something to this effect recently? I mean XNA which is a synthetic polymer (not particularly new). Apparently, it's recently been demonstrated that XNA is capable of DNA-like functionality. I think this is the link to the abstract...

Yep, I was just giving an example... The fundamental principles in English law are the same (i.e. you don't need to "confirm" the intruder's hostile intentions before defending yourself and your property), apart from the fact that it's ultimately up to the court to establish whether the actions...

I don't think English courts will treat this any differently than the US courts, to be fair. At least based on the precedent. In fact, they appear to be even more lenient in the UK, as pursuing and beating the sh1t out of intruders after the fact is deemed "reasonable defence".

Well, that's part of it... Mostly I am referring to all the LIBOR sh1te that has been festering under the surface (and recently came to light) since the crisis. Basically, people are now starting to use the liquid FX fwd mkt to imply "real" market rates, rather than the other way round.

Yeah, the fwds are priced based off of interest rate parity, using the deep and liquid rates mkt (bonds & derivatives) that goes all the way out to 30y. FX options are also a pretty deep mkt, although the longer expiries are going to be somewhat less liquid. The fwd mkt is definitely less deep...

Nice... You forgot the French, though.

    for the last time!

+1 This is a general truth and applies to everything in the mkt, not only options. There exist only two distinct ways of making money: 1) forecasting/predicting the future (corresponds to sle's item a) above); and b) providing liquidity to the mkt (corresponds to sle's item b) above).

Believe it or not, this happened to me once when I was coming back home really pissed... Would have been nice if the lamp post were padded :).

Ah, but of course, you, sir, are a tough guy with massive balls of steel, nay, titanium... My only hope is to bask in your aura of "un-pussiness" :).

Why do you need to know that it's a burglary? The law applies to self-defence of any sort. [B] What does it have to do with "liberal", which, in the context you use, is a uniquely American term? How do you mean "the English are a bunch of pussies"? Compared to whom? The US?

Defending your home against 4 burglars is a crime in "Great" Britain.

If you remember the names of people involved, I'd be happy to look up the specifics. In general, possibly because of the public's outrage over the case you describe, the Criminal Justice Act 2003 modified the legal language. The homeowner can only be countersued by the intruder if they used...

Defending your home against 4 burglars is a crime in "Great" Britain.

Well, ignoring your other attempts to provoke me (I assume), I am happy to discuss this with you. The main point here is that the state of ambiguity exists for the homeowner to begin with. For instance, let's say a teenager kicks a ball that ends up on my property, comes over to retrieve it...

Defending your home against 4 burglars is a crime in "Great" Britain.

With all due respect, tom, you're incorrect... Based on a few cases of the 1970s, the courts used to rule that the defender was under a duty to retreat and that retreating or disengaging is necessary to establish that the defender was acting reasonably. The present position of the law (as...

Where did I attack you personally, pray tell, my sensitive friend? All I am asking is that, when talking to me and asking me to comment, you address me directly, like a normal human being. As it happens, I have actually responded to the substance of the article, so your wonderfully colorful...
