The Myth: 3x ETFs good only for short term...

But could you have stood the ride? ! 10 K worth of UPRO bought 10 years ago would have been worth about 170K in January 2020. By the middle of march it was worth less than 45K a 70% drop. HODL

    Time Frames

I look at 3 charts for swing trading. A 3 month daily to see what's happening recently; a one year daily and a 5yr weekly to give me a longer term view.

    Rules-Based Trading: quotes and resources

A trading system that has more losses than wins will make a profit if you win more per trade than you lose. Don't be afraid of losses, just keep them small.

I have found that preserving capital is the most important. You can't win if you don't bet but you can't bet if you don't have any money.

Taking losses is hard. It gets easier the more you do it. I quit looking at individual positions and just look at the portfolio value. The other thing I find is that once I sell a position I'm not quite as attached to it. I remind myself that there are hundreds of stocks I don't own that are...

    Rules-Based Trading: quotes and resources

It's one way to determine if the problem is the rules or the trader. If you don't have any rules it's almost impossible to break, bend or ignore them.

    Tribute to Brooks

How are you going to do this? Do you have a checklist of criteria that a an entry must meet before you take a trade? Are you planning on recording your thoughts and then sharing them? Keep in mind that there will be two steams of thought. The ones you actually experience and the ones you feel...

The concept of house money, selling half when the price doubles and letting it ride..

It's one of the reasons I question why people don't get out in a downturn. Even if you get back in a couple bucks lower you'll still be ahead of holding all the way down and waiting for a recovery.

Ahh! Life unfolding as it should. I didn't only saw what the charts showed and sold off positions as they turned down. Never started to get back in until they showed an uptrend. Didn't do anywhere close to your performance. I wasn't expecting a "V" recovery. Waiting for confirmation was costly.

    Position Size Calculator

How about for stocks? How are you coming up with a position size for your portfolio? I use the percentage of my portfolio that I'm willing to risk. I take the difference between my entry and my stop and divide that into the percentage of my portfolio I'm willing to risk to come up with the...

    Crushing your dreams about trading

How are you going to work harder at trading? More research? More time going over charts? You have to work smarter, not harder. If you continue to do the same thing and expect different results, I don't care how hard you work, nothing will change.

Murray T; I haven't looked at the Stock Traders Almanac. I try and stay away from stuff that will bias my thinking. I'd rather trade what I see on the charts. I prefer to think of myself as a speculator. I'm buying the stock because I think it will increase in value. I don't care about the...
