    IB people HeadsUp

So that we don't kill IB's account management system with our 94,000 hits (all but 832 of ETs active members are IB customers, right?), the message I got was: "Warning: Some of the cost basis calculations displayed on your 2007 annual statement are incorrect and a new annual statement will be...

    Price Action v Indicators

As someone who did a lot of work on trying to improve CCI I can tell you that its an approximation and not the real thing especially when it comes to divergence. A 14 sma and price is a good approximation to the basic cci (just line on close) too. But ... the CCI has a normalizing factor...

Screwed by IB? "Tough luck dude"

Lachie, You were not "screwed by IB" but by your own inexperience. Good to see that you accept that --- as its the first step to actually getting on with life and ultimately becoming a capable trader. Repeat after me: Damn, my own fault, well I know now --- I will do better next time...

mini Nikkei 225 futures tick data

IB isn't true tick data (especially on something as noisy as this) ... max of 1 tick every 20ms. Look at STW, SPI and KOSPI as well as nikkei for intraday bigger range/atr figures. My favourites are spi and stw currently.

    How to define a trend 100 % objectively ?

Yes, I'm trading sub H1 timeframes and emas provide better resistance in this range. I think it's simply that more traders use emas on short timeframes. When on longer term I always look at the 50, 100 and 200 smas to see if they support price action. At 20 it seems a toss-up between ema and...

    Shanghai expansion going insane

newguy, The real questions for China will be: - how exposed is it to a fall off in the US/Europe? - is it linear or is their a multiplier? - do we get a fall of in US/Europe. I think the answers are: - very, its an export economy - multiplier (there is no real cushion and...

Sam Zell: "US won't enter recession; sees housing recovery in Spring"

I don't know the guy from a bar of soap but I enjoyed Nassim Taleb's attack on lucky fools in Fooled by Randomness. A great book for traders (especially if you need to feel good when some fool investor is still making out like a bandit)

ib must be selling order flow on options

Interesting question rft ... but you will only get supposition if there are no dates. Can you provide the day and times for your order (even approximate should help).

    How to define a trend 100 % objectively ?

Interesting makloda, I use emas rather than smas (intraday) but require testing behaviour relative to the mas rather than just slope change or crossover alone. For the OP. Trend is always in the eye and the timeframe of the beholder. If it was objective or simple then anyone could do it...

ib must be selling order flow on options

Almost all businesses must operate on this basis (looking after the shareholder). The solution to the contradiction is that usually looking after your (particular niche/group of) customers is the best way to profitable.

Attention Non-US Residents: Teach Us The Error of Our Ways

Good post, but: - Its not a good assumption that all people like the Swiss; they do have their detractors but not within an order of magnitude of the US. - There is an amazing amount of anti-US sentiment out there. Even people who are polite and pleasant to individual American's dislike...

Attention Non-US Residents: Teach Us The Error of Our Ways

You forget that America's lead is in popular culture (but don't be surprised if the website is maintained by Indians). Its hard to tell how arrogant one is if one is sitting in the middle of a system supporting those views -- would you say that Archie Bunker was arrogant? And just being...

2 Different ISP's Simultaneously On One ADSL Line?

Basically no. ADSL uses a huge lump of the high frequency range of your telephone line ... so you'd need a second phone line for a second ADSL modem.

Shorting is extremely risky in this market- losses, losses, losses

Anyone who thinks shorting is a problem in this market is a half-wit. I've traded asia all day today and had some great shorts. Wonderful. Trade the f'ing market ... not some stupid bias!

ib must be selling order flow on options

LOL. Define "the moment." Assuming you are remote from the exchange your ping is probably at least 100 ms round trip. So you submit an order. Something happens to acknowledge and present it on the exchange. You get confirmation (delayed by at least your ping 50ms) While your internet...

Identifying when IB is your counterparty

You seem to be asking two questions: 1. If an order has been routed to the exchange and another order from IB or TH arrives will it be filled internally rather than the exchange? 2. If IB will match internally rather than relying on the exchange then what is the queuing? Is it first in...
