How do you think an upcoming recession may affect home prices?

Like pushing a wet noodle. Best thing would be increase exports, but that's not as easy to do as altering monetary policy. I think the economic theory of mercantilism should make a comeback.

Helped in what sense? Home prices declined from mid-2006 through early 2012.

How do you think an upcoming recession may affect home prices?

I would only start to worry about housing if Fed drops rates several more times without any real bad economic data. Because then they'd have no room to drop further. But they're probably too smart to do that I hope.

I believe Warren Buffett's quote goes something like... "Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful." Do you think his $122 billion cash pile will be shrinking soon?

And I'm saying that perhaps this massive supply chain disruption may not even happen at all. Perhaps the psychological factor is larger than any real factor that will ever materialize. No it's not a sign of weak argument. It's a sign of not wanting to waste my precious time on Earth talking to you.

I never said the virus situation would affect the numbers at all. My point was to see the amount that real data would affect things vs. what still might be unfounded panic by a virus that has killed exactly 1 person in the USA. Will the markets ignore positive jobs data and focus on mass panic...

I'll be interested to see the effect that the unemployment/jobs report on March 6th has. That is actual real data.

For all you know, the thing could blow over in 1 month with "only" 10k deaths. I say "only" 10k because it's out of 7.5 billion.

Probably add shark attacks and airplane crashes to that also. Now mosquitoes are another story

That's more than SARS, MERS, and new corona combined.

How do you think an upcoming recession may affect home prices?

As you can see from this chart, home prices don't always decline in a recession. They declined in the Great Recession because that was rooted in poor mortgage lending practices. But there was no such decline in 2000 or 1991. 1991 went flat, but no decline. I think it would take a lot of people...

Let's everyone calm down and see what's actually happened so far. The S&P has erased its gains of the last ~4.5 months. This still would have been an all-time high 10 months ago. Hardly doomsday yet. But no telling what tomorrow (or later today) may bring.

And those weren't the end of the bull either. I am not making any prediction to how long the bull will continue... I'm simply saying this virus isn't the cause of the end, even if it appears so on the surface.

Here's a more interesting statistic... https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/knowledge/valuation/market-cap-to-gdp-buffett-indicator/ This is why Buffett has been holding so much cash.

You speak as if you know this stuff (borders closing, etc.) will definitely happen. There were not 2 consecutive quarters of GDP decline as reported on the quarterly reports. Btw, what does .com bubble have to do with supply chain? You are sounding exactly like the panicking masses. I've been...

Read the post just above yours (#55) to hear people who agree with me. You're quoting me on things I never said. Macroeconomics is WAY over your head.

And they don't end because of viruses. They the because of over extension of credit.
