This coronavirus volatility has got me thinking...

I bet you talk to people like that in person, right?

    DOW futures down 400

I was up $3500. I went to eat something, now I'm down $13,000.

    DOW futures down 400

It's already been down, up, then down again and markets aren't even open yet. I put $50,000 fake money into ES emini. Just a couple hours ago, I was down $30,000. I'm down $4300 right now, but it swings $250 every 1/4 point. So I could be up $100,000 or more by the end of the week. Or the...

This hedge fund manager is up 27% in a market down 30%

There are so many inverse investment opportunities available that it doesn't surprise me at all.

    Are options not leveraged?

Been getting into practice emini futures. It very quickly came to my attention that no matter how much I buy, I would lose it all after a 2% decline. Due to the 50x leverage. 2% x 50 = 100%. So when trading these extremely highly leveraged instruments, do the stops have to be extremely tight...

    Are options not leveraged?

If the stock was worth $100 when I bought that option for $0.01... Then the stock went to $110... (Gain 10%) Would the option gain just 10%? Or more?

    Are options not leveraged?

Is the price more volatile as it approaches expiration?

This coronavirus volatility has got me thinking...

There are so many different variables that only a computer could test them all. Plus, it would have to have a success rate will above 50% to make sure it's not just a coin toss. I'm thinking at least one standard deviation above 50%. And all of this "homework" could be negated by any change in...

This coronavirus volatility has got me thinking...

So it sounds like you're describing combinations of technical indicators. Which is something I've tried to back test. 1. Moving average crossover 2. RSI 3. Bollinger Bands It may take time to learn to trade with that profitably... But it takes no time to learn how to back test. I stopped back...

    Are options not leveraged?

For some reason I always thought options were highly leveraged... I sold (paper trading) a call of Boeing on market open Friday. Cost $20.70 per contract ($2070 total), expires April 9th, 2020. That day, I made 9.62% on this option. While BA was down 10.27%. So it seems there is no leverage...

This coronavirus volatility has got me thinking...

What is the longest-term trade that you think can be based on technicals? I could see it working if you have a supercomputer that analyzes every scenario 100 times per second. But not to trade based on a human watching the charts.

This coronavirus volatility has got me thinking...

Every time I've back tested anything, it did not work. If it were as easy as looking for EMA crossovers, everyone would do it. I've heard people say that technicals only work when fundamentals stay the same. So it makes more sense to me to focus on fundamentals. I'm willing to learn new things...

This coronavirus volatility has got me thinking...

One time this old rich guy at a strip club was drunk and trying to tell me about metals ratios and how easy it was to trade. I was too stubborn to listen to him and told him I'd rather flip houses lol. He even gave me his number and was practically begging to teach me how to do it. Oh well...

Explain. Has any of this market movement lately been explained by technicals?

This is the end. We are witnessing collapse of the global economy

The deaths per million are currently 178 in Italy and 146 in Spain. I'll guess these may rise to 220 and use that as my figure. If the USA gets that bad, it would mean 70,000 deaths. It's scary how many parts of the USA are still left to be infected. There is already the beginnings of rioting...

This coronavirus volatility has got me thinking...

There are now clear reasons to expect the markets to do certain things. But this is rare. So all the other times that we're just in "normal" times... Are we just trying to create something out of nothing? Looking for trading opportunities that don't exist and trying to force the logic behind...

This is the end. We are witnessing collapse of the global economy

The worst is yet to come. Both for deaths and stocks.

    Setting stops on longer-term trades

Agreed... The stimulus is priced in. The virus can't be priced in because we don't know the extent of it yet. And I honestly don't think the stimulus will even do that much. $1200 doesn't go far. A time like this makes it seem like free healthcare would be good. People are hesitant to go to...
