An Excerpt from Trading the Measured Move: A Path to Trading Success in a World of Algos and High Frequency Trading (2014) The legendary Jesse Livermore (1877–1940)—the one they called “The Boy Plunger” for the fortunes he made shorting the markets before they crashed in 1907 and 1929—was...

Price obviously go up because there are more buyers than sellers. Conversely, price drops when there are more sellers than buyers. It's that simple. But you ask why is that so? It's due to perception. Some people think the market will go up due to some fundamental reasons (eg. better than...

    ES Journal - 2023/2024

I have a good feeling this year will be profitable for both bulls and bears alike. Just don't get overly attached to your bias. ;) (Now that's what I've been trying to say all along.)

    How do you lose trades?

That's because amateur traders get married to their stock, their bias, and ultimately their position. Etch this into your brain, folks: Be persistent (pro) without being stubborn (amateur)!

Yes, all "day" orders will get automatically cancelled just prior to the close, usually within the last minute of the day. But these orders are sporadically placed all over the price ladder, it probably wouldn't make any big impact. However, you're correct about more demand pushing up price...

    ETs Ultimate Trading Strategy

Great points. Allow me to add one more. Even though you might have the direction down correct, if your timing is off, you will end up losing money. So risk management should go hand in hand with market timing. But this is more of an advanced trading.

Why would a cancellation just before a close cause a frantic move in the underlying instrument? Most of them get cancelled because they're usually way above or below the current best bid/offer (BBO). It ain't like they're only a tick or two above the BBO. Maybe you're thinking of...

    How do you lose trades?

Although this graph is great in concept, it rarely ever translates well into real trading. First and foremost, smart money knows that all the dumb money follow this principle and they lay TRAPS all along the way to throw you off course. Sooner or later, you become demoralized and cannot stop...

    What are you presently reading?

Well, most of them had nothing to do with stock market. Perhaps an exception is Bernard Baruch, who was a contemporary of Livermore. He also made a great fortune in the market and kept most of it. What's more, he went on to provide public service under Roosevelt's presidency. As such, I think...

    Could it be this easy?

As they say, "When it's too good to be true, it's usually a fake." I personally heed that advice for everything in life, even with backtests. Hope that helps.

    Could it be this easy?

As @Sekiyo already pointed out, commish and slippage alone will take a big chunk out of your profit if you're using market orders. Also, when backtesting, there's the issue with overfitting. To avoid this, it's better to forward-test or run the algo in a sim for an extended period. You will...

    What are you presently reading?

It's unfortunate that only thing people remember about Livermore is that he declared bankruptcy and, in the end, ultimately committed suicide. While those are facts, there were many other spectacular success in the interim. For instance, he's the towering figure when it comes to tape reading (or...
