One thing is for sure, they have a lot to talk about in that September meeting. They are between a rock and a hard place. Yellen signed a 'Rate hike probably appropriate in the coming months' but they didnt prepare the market for a September one (by putting something clear in the last statement)...

One thing I was considering, maybe I should really load up on Oct Fed futures. The only way I can see that the Fed hikes in September, is if they changed their framework and now they will hike regardless of market preparation (without a clear signal coming from the previous Fed statement, like...

The reason I ask is because I'm curious how do Europeans deal with situation they are put n. I believe you are in London which is a bit better compared to the EU. Those in the EU are super screwed, most of the safe bonds have negative yields. The ones that dont are from suspect countries that...

Just watched Tarullo (FOMC voter) on CNBC, he didnt sound like he was ready to hike at all. He talks about where the 'discussion needs to be'. He sounded unsure, when the Fed is unsure, they postpone. So yes, maybe Nov or Dec hike, but Sep? I dont think so. No so quickly after a whiff on...

Unfortunate timing for my SPY cover. Really bizzare how people went from 'no hike' to 'hike coming' in like 48rs. I dont buy it though

Long Oct 16 Fed futures. I just dont believe this fed hike scare. The bigger the scare, the less the chance they hike (because stocks will fall) But more importantly, I just think the ISMs will put the Fed on wait and see mode, they usually err on the side of 'more data plz' when there is risk...

Are CEOs allowed to sell covered calls on stocks they own?

usually CEOs have a overexposure to their company stock as % of their networth. If they are allowed to trade the stock in given period, they are much better off selling shares directly than to decrease their exposure in a small way by selling OTM calls

If Pablo Escobar were alive and in business today, I wonder if he would be burying gold instead of dollar bills. You would never know the day you would have to dig out those dollars and go to the bank, because they are about to ban the bill. Or when the government will create hassles involving...

I love most things about the US, except for one aspect of it, its a police state. I'm sure this war on cash will gain traction. When the hunt for tax havens came about (circa 2008), the US implemented FATCA, they closed the Soros loophole, pushed for things like the OECD reporting standards...

http://www.wsj.com/articles/the-sinister-side-of-cash-1472137692 The war on cash... Two potentially 'easy' (politically) tax hikes in this leveraged new world, going after tax havens (the OECD new reporting standards and the EU Apple tax are examples of that) and declaring a war on cash. You...

hedging a portfolio against a black swan

I suggest you apply a Dalio 'risk parity' type approach. You give up a few % returns every year in order to protect yourself against the bigger drawdowns that happen in equity indexes. Paying for puts and other things like that, I'm not sure that is a good idea at all. at least for most people

Ackman Buy's Big Stake in CMG, Was Wondering Why It Traded Weird!

Here is an interesting article " Here's the thing about Chipotle. Its shares have literally been cut in half since it had a series of foodborne illness crises at the end of last year. The thing about it is that -- and I've written about this on Fool.com regularly over the past few months --...

Ackman Buy's Big Stake in CMG, Was Wondering Why It Traded Weird!

He would have to disclose if he had any options position or any other derivative. People look at the PE and think the stock is overvalued, but on a price to cashflow or price to operating earnings, the stock is a bit cheap compared to competitors and its still a young company (unlike MCD), so...

Ackman Buy's Big Stake in CMG, Was Wondering Why It Traded Weird!

Its all about whether this is a short-term hicup in the business or if there is long-term impairment in the business as a result of the food issues. I'm willing to bet he is right that this is short-term. I mean, they had a bunch of food issues in 2008/2009 and the stock still soared afterwards...

People who can call a crisis in advance and switch to bullish close to the bottom and buy are really rare. Thats a lesson I learned in 2009, most of the geniuses turned into idiots when things turned. I'm seeing that happening right now in brazil, the great managers who predicted the crisis are...

Were the bubble callers just unlucky that central banks supportive policies 'saved' these markets? Perhaps but it just seems ridiculous to rely on central banks allowing deflation. In a lot of countries (and Brazil is one of them), its simply not going to happen. And one could have known that...

I believe it makes sense to sell out real estate, pay the transaction costs and the taxes when things are just absurdly overvalued. Like just flat out ridiculous/insane, otherwise you got to time it like a king

The US real estate recovery since 2009 goes to show the folly of calling real estate bubbles. A lot of countries that people were calling a bubble in the 2000s, never dipped, they actually went higher (I'm referring to some european markets, Australia and some others). But even the ones that did...
