There is one "gain" that I didnt count, which is the interest that I receive by rolling over BRL futures contracts (effectively long BRL short USD). It amounts to +2%. I'm not quite sure how to account for this because these arent truly "gains" given the high BRL inflation rate and the risks of...

Made some preliminary calculations. I'm up roughly 5.5% this year (give or take 1%) Biggest factors to results were: -3% PSH (already after accounting for VRX hedge gains) +2.5% EWZ/EWZS +2.5% USD Brazil bonds +1.6% GLD +1.5% UST bonds (cash and futures) I'd be up a fair amount more if I didnt...

I believe leverage makes sense to be applied counter cyclically. You do it when the levered players are hurting and the margin calls are all over the place. When things are fine and everybody is drinking from the low rate kool aid, you save ammunition

"The 4 hour Workweek" and trading

As a day trader I try to apply the paretto principle by only sticking around in important days where I'm likely to see the 20% of the trades that make 80% of the profit. But I got tell you, its hard. Once you are staring at the screen and seeing opportunities to make money, its hard to leave to...

Most of my positions are outright longs, the short puts are cash secured with zero leverage. I just think being leveraged after a 7 year bull market fueled by 0% rates with the Fed on exit mode is just a bad ideia. Even if it works

And I'm not even against premium selling. I do it, I think its great. But its something I do with small size in a cash covered basis. I believe a lot of traders fall for fools gold by thinking there in something magical on it, then they overdoit. Thats when they get in trouble

Thing is, it might not be right just to compare the results with the S&P500 return. His strategy has a degree of leverage and risk that being 100% long SPY doesnt. You will pretty much never lose 100% being long SPY, but you can lose 100% running a $600K notional risk on $150K. So there is some...

Word. Thats why its important to calculate your blow up point. Once you understand all you are doing is borrowing against these extreme scenarios, you realize that your profits arent simply profits like that

With the index you can also defer your tax liability, you dont have to sell. Buffett knows this trick well. With options you are constantly paying tax

Thats the thing, in order to make the strategy more resilient to blow ups, you go to do things that will decrease the returns. In the end, I find it unlikely that you will be able to beat the index, specially after taking into account taxes and commissions. Of course, dont let me stop you from...

SEC charges hedge fund manager Leon Cooperman, Omega Advisers with insider trading

yes, the main witness has a vested interest in telling his story. if he doesnt, then its him who is liable for regulation FD violations. I imagine Copperman defense will go pretty hard on that, as well as point out the failed Cuban litigation

Is there a way to cancel every IB order automatically after 30 minutes?

Sometimes I forget live orders out and when I get filled, usually I dont want the fill any longer. But I also dont want to have to manually do this, this has to be done automatically, for everything except GTC orders

    The ultimate carry trade

This turned out to be a great investment. JREITs are up more than 100% since the OP, plus they paid dividends the whole time. Meanwhile japanese savers earned 0% on their savings

Since Abenomics the Nikkei is up more than 60%. JREITs are up a similar amount. Now with the invisible hand of Bernanke guiding Abenomics, their policies should get a boost

Over the next 12 months, a BOJ financed tax cut (helicoper money) seems to be a possibility. Either that or some variations of that (in order to avoid criticism)
