I agree, there's nothing wrong with taking 30 ticks, but definitely look for a re-entry signal on the shorter time frame or play the breakout. I was positioned in advance for that breakout and managed to screw up my exit royally.

You take a very quick fixed profit, or you move stop to b/e (or maybe a couple ticks outside of it in case there's a retest of the breakout level which is VERY common), or you leave your breakout max stop in place and see if there's further action in your favor coming. How did I manage this...

Euro futures, trade very similar to CL but on these chop/wide range bar days in CL, 6E can have cleaner moves. Also 6E has a slightly larger tick size. Not that I judge a trading instrument solely by the size of its tick.

I like breakouts coming off a defined trend. I see nothing resembling a trend today, except in pre-market leading into the NYMEX open. So no breakout opportunities that fit my criteria.

The momentum is a bit lacking today. But no harm in trying each breakout, or get positioned in advance so you have a few ticks run in your favor.

Had my first CL trade of the day a little while ago. Just killed it for a full tick. Beer's on me later. :D
