I've noticed that over the last few days every time that gold starts tanking out of the blue (while ES and EUR hold just fine), oil tends to follow suit. Maybe this is related to commodities' ETFs?

Your indicator probably has a "strength" setting for the HH, HL, etc. If you adjust it to different levels you will see what Volente sees. Different opinions don't mean anyone is making an error. Peace.
